Shingwedzi
I see that at Shingwedzi they have three categories of camping sites - those with power (ck6p), larger sites (ck6pl) and view sites (ck6pv).
Does anyone know how the allocation of these sites is managed and controlled - or is it still the usual KNP free for all first come first served basis?
I have booked for a view site with a price premium. Am I assured a view site as booked, or will I be “competing” with campers that have booked cheaper ordinary sites but nevertheless grab a spot along the fence line?
At that time of year shade will also be an issue.I am hoping that the allocation of sites will be properly managed with the view sites being reserved for those people who have booked and paid for them.
Sadly, You're never assured of anything.
I usually time my arrival for +/-09h00 to maximise chance of a choice of stands (even if it means waiting for someone to finish packing up if they have a prime position).
Hitching their van to their car whilst they run to the loo or do their dishes before departing is frowned upon - but helpful.
We are booked in at Shingwedzi in Aug of this year .Could not get a V site ,booked out ,and made do with a CK6P site .Not sure if the P sites are also numbered now ,or first come first served? Please anyone who knows tell me.![]()
The April COL issue has an article in in about the V numbering not working nor being enforced. So perhaps not having a V site is a blessing.Furthermore some are completely in the sun and the sites are cramped ,not sure if this is true.
But lets be postive ,I am sure by the time you arrive next year it will be sorted.

Sites are numbered but not allocated nor checked. We paid for larger site with electricity.
Fortunately for us the camp was relatively empty and we could choose.
If this practise will change in future and be properly controlled I doubt.
Same as all alse requiring control, nothing will happen.
Suggest be there early and pick a site.
Spoke to reception and as Proffie says its numbered but apart from the V sites you can choice any other site. Did not get a satisfactory answer on the allocation of large sites.Anyway large or normal sites are the same price.
So I agree be early and relax no matter what site you end up with , and enjoy nature.
Also going in Aug week of the 17 Aug ,
At Shingwedzi arriving from Punda Maria from 8 Aug till 13th August then Tsendze for 3 nights and on to Letaba 5 nights ,Satara 7 nights and B & Dal 4 nights and home .
But prior to this visit we will be in the park from mid May till mid June to prevent CKD in the short term.
