TENT POLES
Good day All
I have raised this topic as a sepate post as this seems to be a huge problem under different posts. Many new Caravanners (myself included) has or had this problem. You buy a second hand Van (your 1st one) and receive a bunch of poles not one of them marked and truly NO MANUAL. Some of us buy a Van with Rally and Full tent, other get only one tent. Most people feel embarresed when they get to a campsite and have no clue as to what comes where and why. Worst of all, you might find that you short a few poles and then the weekend is ruined.
Perhaps Willie or Someone can start a Tent Specs as the Caravan Specs on the lefthand side and build up a complete guide as to the different models or at least some guide with photo's/pictures of the basics required lets say start from Rally tents at first?
Surely this should be of great help to many Forum users.

Great idea, I have a manual for the 4B that I will scan in & make it available on the forum.

Pieter
That is exactly what happened to us. 2nd hand caravan too many poles and no idea what went where with no manual at first camp.
Fortunately there was a ''helper'' at the site that saw my confusion and put all the required poles together in a matter of minutes. Once all was up I bought different colours of insulation tape red, yellow green blue white red and black. Taped the clours on each side of the joined poles and now I have km's of insulation tape I dont need.....lol The extra poles I have taken out the caravan as the rally and the add-a-room have seperate bags for their poles. No need to take poles I dont use.
Hi, great idea. I have found a great way of marking the poles so you always know where they go. Once you have discovered where they go off course. I will post a drawing on how we did it.

Maybe I should not mention this but here goes. The condition of the boot of a car tells you a lot about how the vehicle was maintained.(Just a general obsevation)
The condition of a pole bag gives you an good indication on the condition of the van. Thus if you buy a van and all the poles of all the various add-ons are in one bag, not marked and some of the fittings not there, expect some trouble with the van.
A person that has the poles sorted properly, and marked properly is a owner that looked after the van very well.
Good idea. But it will also help if you insist that the tent(s) is/are erected for you by the dealer/previous owner before you leave with your brand new old van. That way you can see whether all the poles are there and where they belong. When we recently bought the camper we received a gazebo with it (even neatly in its bag), however, when we got home some of the poles and corners were missing. The dealer could not help and the price to replace the poles is so expensive (±R700) that it is not worth it.

Hi Colin & Julia,
You don't maybe have a drawing of the add a room poles or picture of the inside?

Hi Cilla, maklikste is as julle bespreek, hoor of daar werkers is wat tent opslaan.
