Camping sites in Namaqualand, flowering time
I have never been to the West Coast and would like to know more about where I should go and where to stay when going there to see the flowers
I have done some research on the web and it seems as if it would be a good bet to contact namaquainfo.co.za at this stage.
I am also planning on going with my caravan from 4 September (leaving Gauteng,Springs} to about 12/13 September, returning via Cape town. It seems like a good bet to stop over at the Mokala Park outside Kimberley and then Augrabies before making base camp in or around Springbok for a couple of days.
Hennie
I have just booked a stand at Springbok Caravan Park for September. The number is 027 718 1584 and the person to speak to is Marion. If you make this your base camp, the possibilities in the area to see flowers are endles.
I just stayed last week for a night at the Springbok Caravan Park with a caravan. I can recommend it, the ablutions are old but they were clean. Also stayed at the VanRhynsdorp Caravan Park. The ablutions there are not great but manageble for a night or two. They have a restaurant in the caravan park that I can recommend, we had a meal there last saturday evening and the food was great.
Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it.
We have just returned from a trip to Namaqualand. First day travelled to Kuruman- terrible road between Wolmeransstad and Vryburg (not recomended) Kuruman municipal camp not recomended- rather stay at Red sands just outside Kuruman. Day 2- Stayed at Augrabies national park. Highly recomended. Day3-Springbok Highly recomended. Lovely park, lovely atmosphere, old but very good, clean ablutions. Wonderfull people. Very central for flowers. Stayed for longer than I intended. On to Strandfontein- what a beaut. Highly recomended. Next stop Clanwilliam dam- reasonable ablutions. Long trip to Palmiet, Kleinmond. one of the best. Next stop Mosselbay Punt - must still rate as one of the best. Returned via Karoo National Park. What a wonderfull place. A must do. Long trip to Sprngs in one go.Not recomended. This trip was done by my wife and I who have been putting it off for the last 20 years. If only I knew how great and beautiful Namaqualand was I would have done it every year for the pst 20 years.
