The CaravanParks.com Team
we were there in June 2017 for one night.
Very interesting place and history in the middle of desert and bush......But SERVICE was horrendous and dinner could also not be arranged according to the menu because the "truck did not arrive ".......staff totally untrained and boss only sits behind computer........
You will survive it nicely but you will enjoy the surroundings and castle itself....
Next door is the camping place with own restaurant (or so the boards indicated) but we realized this too late and also don't know the quality of the food there...Service should be same as in the castle...
Nevertheless, enjoy the visit but we won't go there a second time.
When you camp at these places you must be self sufficient.
Don't expect anything and you will get nothing.
Anything Government orientated is poorly run.
Privately run, then you can raise your expectations...
On The Road Again
Dankie vir die terugvoer.
Al weer oppad iewers heen.
I agree with Campervan but sometimes a little below average is not killing you and the food as rudimentary it may be will not kill you either.
The saying goes: "What does not kill you makes you strong...."
The place is very interesting and intriguing but not the food and service...
We could not do otherwise as we did not camp at all (it was our delayed honeymoon)
I also know that the service in ETOSHA (sometimes the accomodation as well) is also average or below but you cannot do otherwise , if you want to be in ETOSHA for a few days. I did camping there in 2014 and it was fine, apart from 1 or 2 tourist busses arriving every day and each pitching 20 or 30 tents in the afternoon --spare a thought foor those poor people- next day they are leaving again......
Attached a photo of my camping combination in 2014....
Spare a thought for those poor people...
When we travel we choose to move on everyday, so very seldom spend more than a single day at any given destination...
IRO the below average expectations, we travel without any expectations, so if there is water available, then it is a bonus for us, if we can drink the water it is an added bonus, if there are cold showers, then it's GLAMPING, if the showers are hot it is three star, then with power it is 5 star, clean and everything in place is like an oversees holiday... That is expectations...
Gerd, I am sure that you thoroughly enjoyed your late/delayed honeymoon.
Every time we get away into the bush it is for a late honeymoon...
On The Road Again
The thought for these ":poor" people was not so much for the moving as such but for spending the following day in a "tour bus" which is definitely NOT COMPARABLE to Greyhound or Intercape.
I so wish I could have taken up trailer camping earlier in my life but my late first wife was not impressed at all......
We try now to catch up at least a little bit....
Thanks for the good wishes......someone who had a 4x4 roof rack for sale some months ago said: Camping or off-road trailer is the way to go and NOT ROOF TENT because he thought that roof tents are for honeymooners.
Yes and most off road trailers are for people who spend two, three or more days at any given camp site. This is simply because it is so much effort and time in setting it up, that they need a break in between for the next time's hard labor, in taking it down and then setting it up again at the next camp...
On The Road Again
Hard labour is most certainly not for me (75 +)nor for my wife(69) and that is why we have decided on a Supra 1 with movers (just pop open -unroll the safari awning = 10 very easy minutes) and no 2m ladder to go to bed, pitch the OZtrail 300 Fast frame tent (8 easy minutes + guy ropes) for the fridges and the Porta Potti and other various....) and if staying longer than 2 or 3 days unroll the awning on the Pajero LWB too (another easy 5 minutes) , thereafter sundowner time and clean hands).
Easy does it ![]()
Gerd, Put a large drawer under the Supra bed and it makes your packing, under the bed, that much easier...
