Makana Resort - Grahamstown
Hi all,
Anybody stayed at Makana?
Any feedback?
Thinking of overnighting there.
Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin. Susan and i overnighted there year before last. At that stage it was horrible and i will not use it again. Susan refused to use the bathroom and washed herself in the caravan. I used the bathroom but only for what was really necessary.(private bathroom). The park itself was untidy and dirty. Luckily we only arrived there at dawn and early the next morning we left. Maybe things are better by now but we will not try it again.
Ons drink uit die piering want ons koppie loop oor.
It has deteriorated further.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, rather stay at Port Alfred, it’s 70km away though.
We usually stay at Medolino in Port Alfred and enjoy it there. At that specific day, i referred to above, we were delayed with roadworks in the former Transkei and were forced to stop in Grahamstown before dark. This is not going to happen again especially as Rare Breed said it went worse.

Thanks for the input folks.
We are actually heading for Yellow Sands from Mossel Bay.
Wanting an overnight stop en route so that we have a short drive in to Yellow Sands

Maybe I should stay at Medolino, then drive up the R72 to East London, then on to Yellow Sands?

It’s either Meldolino or Green Fountain farm resort in Port Alfred. They are both excellent in my books.
Thanks Rare Breed
Green Fountain Farm does looks like a good option too. A few less km's the next day to Yellow Sands

Mart, I don't know what route you are coming down on but what about Valschfontein on a farm on right hand side of N6 if you are going South just below Penhoek Pass Grassed and under trees.
Thanks Brian,
Valschfontein doesn't fit in with this particular route. But good to know they still there for other trips.
I overnighted there shortly after they opened in about 2001/2002.

When will you be at Yellow Sands ?

Brian
Valschofontein is on the N6 between Queenstown and Aliwal North. It is suitable from inlanders on the way to the coast.
You will also be using the same route when you are heading to Yellows Sands , it’s N2 all the way, then 30km otherside of PE, you join R72 to Port Alfred or you carry on the N2 via King Williams Town.
Hi Brian,
This all planning a big trip for April/May next year.
Plan is to be at Yellow Sands for the long weekend of 24th - 27th April.
Then from Yellow Sands head up via Oberammergau in Senekal for 1 night, and Jackalberry Ridge in Marloth Park for 2 nights, then a month in the KNP. It will be my first time at both Oberammergau and Jackalberry Ridge.
Then working my way back down to Mossel Bay.
Purpose of the stop at Yellow Sands is to do a recce and see whether we would like to stay there for a month at some future point.

Sounds like a nice trip - I'm sure you will like Yellow Sands from what I have heard, I'm going to be there for three weeks from 21 Dec. Our first camp there so looking forward to it.
First time hearing about the resort in Senekal . East London to Senekal is a stretch, ( 700km) but doable.Which camp/s are you staying at KNP?
Hi Rare Breed,
Yes, Senekal is a bit of a stretch. But I already had made my bookings for Jackalberry Ridge and the KNP.
The Yellow Sands "detour" was an afterthought. So then it became finding somewhere for 1night on the way up from Yellow Sands to Jackalberry.
Staying at Lower Sabie, Satara and Shingwedzi. With overnights on the way up to and down from Shingwedzi at Letaba.
Also being very brave and going to risk 2 nights at Skukuza for the first time in 29 years of camping in the Kruger!

Hi mart i am staying in Grahamstown and i can say it does not look good ,premises is dirty and bathrooms does not look good it is usely used by contractworkers and i can promise you they don't care. I drive past the park daily on my way to work and back. I will also recoment Port Alfred try Greenfountain farm resort outside port alfred onroute east london ,also private ablutions and very need and security very good i see it as my second home because i camp there whenever i am off.
Sleep veilig
Thanks Corra,
Booking for Green Fountain:)

Hi Martin,
I would suggest that you confirm that Oberammergau in Senekal still exists before planning to stay there. We had planned to stay there on our way to and from the Drakensberg last month but the place had a 'for sale' sign up, looked pretty deserted and when I phoned the phone just went dead.
Thanks for the heads-up Surfer.
I have sent them an email booking request - and no reply yet.
Might explain why
