Can anyone advise of a good repair shop or service centre in Pretoria, I need to have a new clutch installed in the Pathfinder. First quote from E-Car  R54 234.00.

Is it necessary to replace the Flywheel at the same time ?

Hi Brian.

I am no expert on the Pathfinder range of vehicles however i do carry knowledge that these vehicles use a dual-mass flywheel that cannot be machined as a normal solid flywheel could, hence the hefty quote to replace. I am sure that some other forum members will carry more information regarding this. About 10 years ago or so I knew a guy that drove a Navara and the clutch needed replace and at that time it was a arm and a leg for the flywheel only- he sold the Navara without the clutch being replaced.

Thanks Rob, I‘m getting a second quote so hopefully the cost will be more affordable. Don‘t want to sell the car she pulls the van very well and I can‘t afford a replacement to do the same job. If I have to sell the car the caravan will have to go as well. Not ready to sell the van yet I have a few more years of camping to do first :) 

Trying to find out if there is a conversion kit for the flywheel to a solid flywheel.

I am not sure if you are registered as Stalker on the 4X4 forum, but there is a thread there regarding a Pathfinder clutch that needs replacement and the pricing seems to tie up with your quote of R54 200.00 

If you are not Stalker, then I am afraid that it could be the going price.

Ryans Auto Worx in Centurion did a couple of work on our previous car. They are reliable and was happy and prices was reasonable. They are close to Makro in Centurion

Gosh, and i thought R25000 to overhaul my triton gearbox last month was expensive..........

Any news on the clutch? How does the agents pricing compare to the quotes that you have?

Hi Ron, the first quote I got was with genuine Nissan parts. Got a second quote for less than half the cost - R22080 with aftermarket parts. I did not bother to get a quote from the agents. 

The vehicle is currently in workshop expecting it back tomorrow. They are also doing it‘s annual service at the same time. 

Shoe Brian thats a big saving.  Hope all is well with your vehicle.

Mayfair is supposed to be the gearbox, and I suppose clutch experts.  They are in Silverton.  My experience with them on my Kuga was not good however, but a manual gearbox is very simple compared to a duel clutch so I think they will be able to handle this well.

When I had my Rover SDE which had an autobox the Jhb branch overhauled it - lasted well and a few years later sold the car.

Leon unfortunately not, the clutch kit was not compatible after stripping they were able to source the correct one. The correct kit is costing R4500 more but still overall a good price compared to the original quote.

This delayed the works so it should be ready sometime today -  holding thumbs.
