mozambique newbie
hi there, we are new to the forum and would really appreciate some advice from all the well-travelled campers on the site. we are planning a trip to Mozambique in either Sep 09 or Dec 09. First of all, is it madness to consider mozambique in december - heat and mozzies? and obviously - where do we go? i have been reading several threads as well as talked to some mates who have been, but still I find it quite hard to decide where to actually stay. we are a family of 6 ; dad, mom, teenager, 7 & 9 & nearly 2 yr old. we tow an xplorer with a fortuner 3D4d. we are looking to camp somewhere really close to the beach, without 40 million other people. any advixe on where to go. Tx
Hi Lindi, welcome to the forum! We go to Moz every year during March/April - I consider it the best time to go. Rainy season basically just finished and it is not so hot! I personally think you are taking a big chance to go in Dec as it is the middle of the rainy season, storms, siclones etc. - I think the heat is awfull that time of the year. The mozzies are always a pest. We always go to Guinjata Bay - +- 20 km from Inhambane. There is a few resorts closeby, Jeff's, Coconut Bay,Paindane etc. You can just go on the Guinjata Bay website and see for yourself. The only problem is that those places are booked long in advande so you better hurry! I can really not comment on weather in Sept, maybe some of the other forum users can help you there. One thing is for sure - you will never want to go anywhere else again!! Enjoy!!
thanks thanks Michelle!!! so u reckon the sept trip might be doable? i have sent tons of info requests - i think i might be very confused by now.... anyway - i did look at paindane, but apparently the site say they only take a min of 8 people per site and min booking of 2 weeks (?) it put me off straight away- but now i will def enquire. it looks stunning. what about molengane? i am not keen purely because of overcrowding. is this true? i am also led to believe it is very commercialised and thats exactly what we dont want. in the new wegsleep also articles re xaixai campsite. i like it purely because of vicinity to the beach- furthermore ek weet nie....the kids and hubby - all 5 of them - want to be close to beach and if they could choose with "nuffing" around them. thanks again - the research continues with a bit more direction. please send more info!!! chat soon
Lindi we go to moz every aug going again on 15-22 aug we do not take our caravan it is cheaper to take a barrak on the beash we go to Naser do sol 60 km from xai-xai send me your e mail i got photo,s wvw@lantic.net
Dit is so 180 km noord van Xai Xai. 24 uur sekuriteit is 'n plus.
Ek stuur 'n paar fotos.
Hi LINDI, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MOZI, WE HAVE BEEN TO MORRUNGULO IN DEC, VERY HOT, BUT YOU ARE IN PARADISE, SURROUNDED BY COCONUT TREES AND WHITE BEACHES, RESORT SITUATED ON THE BEACH. MORRUNGULO IS SITUATED 100KM NORTH OF INHAMBANE. GO TO WWW.MOZCON.COM (MOZAMBIQUE CONNECTION), THEY HAVE ALL THE DETAILS YOU WILL NEED. AS A PARENT MYSELF, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO TAKE ANY CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 5 YEARS OLD TO MOZI. HIGH RISK OF MALARIA ALL YEAR ROUND AND MEDICAL FACILITIES ARE NOT CLOSE BY. JUST A FRIENDLY WARNING, AS I KNOW OF PEOPLE GOING ON HOLIDAY TO MOZI AND NOT COMING BACK.HAPPY CAMPING, STEPHEN.
Stephen, thanks for the feedback. I believe the malaria is quite stress. friend came back last week and today in hosp - ouch... thats our one and only reservation to be honest. a price not prepared to pay. Still doing our research and chatting to friends and parents re kiddies. anyone else perhaps who have been there with small - under 5 - kids? please let me know... tx
hi. we will also be going to moz in september for a week(14-18) and then off to the kruger and limpopo. did a research about the mozzies and went for a few injections and pills that i need to take as i'm not taking any chances. I will be staing at complexo palmeiras, looks very nice and was reviewed in a magazine. Question: what is there all to do???
Hi Wayne. Only watersport, your own. Anything that floats. The park is on a lake. To get to the sea you need to go via the lake. I understand there is a chap that runs a ferry service from one of the resorts.
