On our travels, Bourkes luck potholes
two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
The museum at the entrance, not the best light for pics.

I was last at the potholes 50 years ago, of course there was no infrastructure then , it was free for all..........and there is a lot more to see if you travel a km or so each side up and down the river. How do I know that.......
1976, a few days after I had just turned 17 I was drafted into 7 SAI just up the road from the potholes [ im 67 now ] so I took a drive up the road and found the remains of once was 7 SAI. A few words with security [ no idea what they are guarding ] and he let me in. Well, what the locals haven't lifted has been reclaimed by nature, however most of what's left of the buildings are still there just as I remember them.
Walking down the skeletal remains of the corridor past the MP office, the kas [ jail ] is still there intact, bars and all. Walking on between the mess hall and the kitchen names and faces sprung out at me in my mind , A chef called sixpence [ I could still see his face ] for 2 cigarettes he would sneak you a plate of PF chow.
Walking further to A company barracks looking around seeing every bed made just perfect and reflecting in that polished floor , I shook my head and looked around at the empty shell that once was. Walking around the front of the base looking out over bush and trees I stood reminiscing how many steps I had marched around that parade ground that once laid underneath that at one time Those were tough days and looking back they were good days, a trip down memory lane.................

Same year and age, I reported to 4SAIs away (3SAI)
I can just visualize what you saw. I don't think my base is in anything like the condition we left it in!?
My wife often visited the 'holes' 60 plus years ago, ricky plank bridges in those days....they lived in Pilgrims Rest.
