Jurgens Exclusive Caravan Maintenance Creaking Floor
I have provided some advise on other platforms and this one on how to get rid of a "Creaking Floor" of the caravan.
I had to do the maintenance on my own Exclusive because if we get up at night to use the looooo......... the floor made a creaking sound in the dead of night in the area of the dinnette and fridge. Determine the exact area where the floor is creaking.
The sound is usually cause by the wood that has direct contact with the steel support under the floor. At the time the caravan is built a wax type of sponge is placed between the wooden floor and the steel structure and then over time this wax sponge gets pushed out and the area becomes very dry with the wood in contact with the steel.
My advice to resolve this was to insert a flat screwdriver between the wood and steel brace. Then inject sicaflex or silicone between the opened gap. Wait for the sikaflex to set (24 hours) and remove the screwdrivers.
Result is no Creaking Floor any more. When I did it this time I took the opportunity to take some photos to show what I did. Here goes
On this Photo I first removed the wax sponge and then I tapped two screw drivers between steel and wood to create a small gap.

Next shows where I inserted the sicaflex between the screwdrivers into the gap. I then left it like that to allow the sikaflex to set.

The last two photos show how the sikaflex keeps the space between the steel and wood after the screw drivers has been removed.

Last piece of advice is to allow gaps in the sikaflex so that if water goes in there when driving on wet road that it can get out as well. You only have to do the part of the floor where you walk and get the Creaking sound.
Hope this is of some help.

Living the dream
Thanks Leon.
I must still do that. My floor does not creek but it sounds like a wobbel/bonk board. It is also not wood wood but plastic wood. Like that used for outside decking and benches. There is also no sign of anything in between the floor and the metal supports. Just a small gap. Nothing to remove. It started next to the bed and now it does it anywhere you can walk. Very irritating.

Paul
Hi Paul. I have used the word creaking due to the lack of finding a word that describes the sound best.
Your words "wobble/bonking" best describe what it actualy sounds like.
I must say that I have done this maintenance on 3 floors including my own and it works well.

While camping this weekend found two more spots that does that wobble/bonking sound.
Will sort them during this week.

I think best is to do everywhere you can walk. Mine soon spread to the whole floor.

Yes busy with it. Lifted the caravan of the ground yesterday.
Will insert the screw drivers every where under the walking areas and apply the sikaflex this evening.
I have loosened the fridge aswell and I am also busy the remove the little cabinette above the fridge area because the new fridge is a bit wider and longer.

Yesterday got back home. Could not work on the fridge installation as I am waiting for a Riv-Nut tool.
So I cleaned away the waxy sponge under the floor all the areas where you could walk in the van. Inserted the screw drivers and ...........................
Broke two silicone guns just to get the silicone out of the tubes I had in the garage. I was lucky to repair one gun using spares from the other gun.
So this afternoon I just need to remove the screw drivers then the klonking sound when walking in the van should be under control.

Leon which Sikaflex did you use between the floor and the steel brace ?
Hi Brian. It was some of the sikaflex that I had left from doing seal work on the caravan. I personally think that you can use normal silicone as the purpose of it is not to seal but to be a type of flex surface between the wood and the steel supports.

Thanks Leon. I did go purchase another tube of Sikaflex as the last on had gone hard🙁 I’m going to use it to do some other work on the van ad well so it won’t be wasted.
Great. I also found a few more bonking wobble spots near the caravan door area that needs to be sorted.
Had a great time in Dinokeng lastweek. 3 Days official leave for a 9 day trip. Great opportunity to confirm the maintenance done.

Thanks Leon, we are back home after a 2 month trip and also have to sort out that XXXSST sound on the floors walking area.
The guy at our Caravan shop said that the old models did have 18mm and newer models the 16mm wood and that is where the problem started.
