Onrus River Caravan Park

Avoid Onrus River Caravan Park as crime there is out of control. We stayed 4 nights and were robbed twice. The perimeter fence is not a deterrent to criminals as it is not electrified. Camp there only if you lock everything away. The thieves operate at night and the security guards are evidently ineffective. Worst of all, park management do not warn new arrivals of the high crime. Braais are a disgrace so take your own portable one(pack it away at night or it will be stolen). Positives are spotless ablutions, neat and tidy surrounds and regular refuse removal.

Onrusrivier caravan site is easily accessible via tar road with clear direction indicators. The ablutions are kept neat and tidy. The sites are large and well protected from wind and are fairly private. There are equipt play areas for children. The sea with a tidal pool is at the pedestrian gate of the campsite and is guarded by security. Campsite is well secured. Their rates are of the lowest ever (pentioners pay per site incl. Elec. R175 per day. 5 kilo's from Hermanus shopping mall and walking distance to general café, butcher and liquor store. Excellent and friendly staff. Excellent camping atmosphere. Would I camp there again, A BIG FAT YES.

We will always go back to Onrus when in the Hermanus area. The resort can be maintained a bit better, cutting of branches and levelling of the stands, but still good value for money. Ablutions, although some upgraded, is always clean and neat with Sanitizer well placed at entrance.
