Tyre Weld: Good or No Good
The post: Have you used tyre weld and did it work for you? If not, why not? Where do you believe tyre weld is of value?
For a long time I have had a can of Tyre Weld in my "platkar" and Land Cruiser.
The other day I need to sort out a slow leak on my BMW 320d and so too the Wynns 4 x 4 500ml can to see how it would work.
I removed the needle from the valve and deflated to half the height of the tyre wall using a trolley jack.
I then took the one can and pressed the trigger and it released a little of the sealant and that was the end of the can - nothmg more!
I then took the second can and emptied the entire can. I lowered the trolley jack and the side wall was still bulging. I took the tyre pressure and it was 1 bar. I then inflated it to 2.3 bars and took the car for a 60km trip to get the sealant circulating and raise the temperature of the tyre.
My concerns: The can is for a 4 x 4 and it only inflated a "plat tyre" to 1 bar. Yes, you will get out of a sticky situation but 1 bar is not ideal consider there is "4 x 4" on the can.
Does this mean I need to take a portable compressor with me to inflate to a pressure to get me to a place of safety where I can repair / replace / rotate the tyre (spare).
Note that the can which drooled had passed the expiry date. I did not know it had an expiry date so check yours.
I went to Naskar and asked about it and was advise it be best to take a compressor with you. I also found a can of tyre weld there (not Wynns 600ml) and it said that it will not inflate the tyre to the correct pressure. This was not on the Wynns can.
Hence you have two choices: Take a second can with you or a portable compressor.
Let me know of your thoughts and experience.

One Life. Drive it!
My wife reported a flat tyre on her car when she was on her way home. I, being a 100 kms from her, advised her to use the Tyre Weld in the back of the car until I get home.
I tested the pressure at home, found it to be 1,5 bar, and inflated the tyre to 2,0. I was leaving the next day on a flight to CT, and the tyre pressure was still OK. She used the car to work, and upon my return the next evening I found that the wheel still kept its pressure.
Save it to say that the tyre held up for 2 years and got replaced when it was time for a new set of four!!!!!
My Jimny had a slow puncture, and the tyre shop could not find the leak - (even took the tyre off, scrubbed the rim as they thought it was leaking on the rim, to no avail) - but three weeks on and the tyre lost about 0,5 bar .... frustrating!!
Deflated the tyre, put some of this "goo" in, (tyre pressure went up to 1,1 bar) inflated this to the correct pressure, and voila - 6 months and not a drop in pressure!
So, that is my 2c!!
Thank you Nico. That is the application which came to mind.
I do not believe it to be too reliable, and as in your example I would rather have 2 cans in the car.
Remember to check the expiry date.

Shaun, I have used Tyreweld on several occations and in all cases kept the tyre as it was until I had to replace it. I know it is suggested to be a temporary measure so it is advisable to inspect the tyre properly afterwards. There might be a nail embedded in the tread and if you remove it, the tyre will certainly deflate again. I have had that situation and had to use Tyreweld a second time so if you do see the nail immediately, remove it before using the can. Logically it works only on small leaks and probably not on damaged sidewalls but luckily I have never had one of the latter yet.
The first can you used must have been a dud or very old as I haven't had such an experience. Tyreweld is a lifesaviour, literally in the country we live in. I always carry three cans in my car. With the car plus caravan, I regard this as more safe. Also I only stock up with the large ones suitable for 4X4 vehicles as smaller cans might not be adequate.

I never used it. Always had n tyre inflator and a puncture repair kit with me. Yes I have been driving around with a Pick Up most of my life but I do not like the gooey stuff in the wheel.
Because of the tyre inflator and the puncture kit I had the opportunity to help various other people as well.

This was my thinking.

my bekomernis gaan hier oor die TYRE pressure monitor binne die band.
Ek weet dit is 'n goeie hulp middel as jy langs die pad staan.
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Ja, dis 'n vraag, nou wonder ek self. Ek sal bietjie oplees daaroor. Maar ek sal eerder die eenheid vervang as my of my geliefdes se lewes verloor, so ek sal beslis voortgaan om dit te gebruik.
