Towing an Exclusive - which vehicle ?
Hi
i currently have 2010 exclusive which i tow with an ML 350 and its a wonderful combination ... however i am looking at getting something more 'rugged' in the bakkie range. I am looking at a used vehicle and because i want to retire in a year or so, i dont want something that will cost my pension to maintain .... Yes, i understand that buying a used vehicle does have its risks however i dont want to go the route of buying something that is known to be more risky in general. So my question is for guys that currently tow an exclusive with double cabs. What do you tow with and what are your personal impressions regarding capability / cost of maintenance etc ... Also auto or manual?
This is a list of what i am currently looking at but will consider others:
Toyota Fortuner/Hilux (2014 onwards)
Ford Ranger/Everest (2016 onward)
Nissan Nivara/Pathfinder (??)
VW Amarok (a bit too pricy)
Your feedback and insight would be really appreciated :)
Mike
Sterkte

Ek is nie 'n Toyota aanhanger nie so vir my is dit 'n hou verby
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

GOD IS ALTYD TEENWOORDIG
Sonder Jesus is ek niks! ! ! !

D4D. Derde, 4e, Derde as jy sleep.🤣
Welkom.
I have a new Pajero 3.2 Diesel Exceed LWB and it tows my Exclusive effortlessly. I tow in sport mode, 4th / 3rd gear in mountenous country else in 5th on flatish roads, but always in sport mode (gearbox is locked in sport mode). And always in 4x4H. Tarr is 2240Kg.
Groete,
Paul

Thank you Paul. I LOVE the Pajero but apart from their price, i am very nervious of getting one second hand i think. I had a 2007 3.2 GLX LWB and it was wonderfull .... until i put a caravan on the back. At the time i had a fleetline and at the slightest incline, the engine would overheat to the point of having to stop to let it cool. We used to travel to warmbaths fromn JHB and on the return that hill just outside PTA was a KILLER ... No one could ever find out the problem but without the van it was an absolute dream.

Something must have been wrong Michael. My previous Pajero 3.2 2005 LWB did get warm with the Penta or Exclusive up a long mountain pass. Temp gauge moved into the upper area. The new one does not at all. I did not tow in sport mode with that one. See below the "D" light is on. That pic was going up a mountain pass near Loskop Dam.
Groete,
Paul
Towing my Fleetline with a 3.2 Auto Ranger (2nd one I have). And from time to time I also tow a double-berth horsebox with horses (total weight substantially higher than an Exclusive. never had any issue including over heating. The 3.2 Ranger only has one problem, you tend to forget you're towing anything, that enjin just takes every hill and mountain pass in its stride! Before the two Rangers I towed the same stuff with a 2.8 Cherokee and then a 4.0 Territory (petrol), both also automatic. The Jeep was OK but not great, the territory/ Well fuel consumption a bit high but she also just took anything I hitch up in her stride.

Ek sleep my Exclususive met 3 L Fortuner. Is tevrede daarmee.
