Tow vehicle
Hi. Im thinking of buying a Ford Ranger. I tow a Jurgens Exclusive and need advice between the 2.2 and 3.2. Thanks

Hi. Im thinking of buying a Ford Ranger. I tow a Jurgens Exclusive and need advice between the 2.2 and 3.2. Thanks

I would go for the 3.2 so you would be able to tow with ease. Alot of people I know have complained about their 2.2 Ford Rangers being troublesome. I never owned one so it's hard to really tell if the bakkie is really problematic or people are just driving them hard. My tow vehicle is a 2.2L and it tows my caravan fine. Lots of power but obviously you can feel that its slower when pulling a fully loaded caravan. With a 3.2L there would be less strain on the motor.
How many days we live is not important ... what's important is how much we live in those days

Ivor, go 3.2 automatic. I drive the 3.0L D4D Hilux auto and it's an absolute pleasure to tow caravan. You'll have the power under foot and the auto box will do the rest....
A happy life doesn't just happen, it's something you create yourself...
Thanks for the advice. It seems that the 3.2 will be the best option. I am getting a 2.2 and 3.2 today or tomorrow and we will use both on the same uphill to check them out.
Ivor, the logical decision will be the 3.2 if you only look at power. The question is, how many times will you tow and will the vehicle also be used for daily use. The 2.2 will be lighter on fuel on a daily used basis. Remember, you will not be on a race track when you tow.
Sê dankie vir wat jy in die lewe het.
Hennie you are right. The vehicle will be used daily as well and I see there is quit a difference on the consumptions between the two.
Is the Tare weight rating of the Ranger enough to legally tow the Exclusive? Many people don’t even think about it, but it’s particularly relevant with these bigger caravans...
Hi. Yes I have checked
Hi Ivor.I have towed a Elegance for the last 4 years with my 2.2 auto Ranger with no problems and the tara is also in line as the Elegance is heavier than the Exclusive.
Thanks Louvers. So I think the 2.2 is the answer
Just wondering whether the 2.2 worked out fine as a tow vehicle for the Exclusive?
i have an Jurgens Excellence, basically an exclusive with extras. i tow with a Ranger 2.2 manual with no problems.
But you are at the weight limit.
tow it with no water in in in case you are stopped at a weigh-bridge.
Having said that, in 30 years of caravanning i have never been aske to go to a weighbridge
Hi. I did bought the 2. 2 Ranger and I am more than happy with the power and even the fuel consumption. Great towing vehicle. Great bakkie

Glad to see you happy with your choice. Hope you get many happy kms with the Ranger
Thanks
Thanks for feeding back on your experience of towing the Exclusive with the 2.2 Ranger.
I've towed something small with our 2.2 Ranger (Venter trailer gross weight 350kg) and I can feel the weight when trying to pull up a hill. Is the experience with the Exclusive such that you can still maintain say 80 km/hr on an uphill or do you find yourself needing to drop down to the 60 km/hr region?
Hi I do maintain my speed on a uphill. My son bought my penta and I towed it from Carletonville to George and it was great. The power was always there. I used to pull the penta with a H1 and I must say the Ranger performs much better

WAARSKUWING:
