Stilbaai camping
We plan to camp a week at Stilbaai during Feb. There are several caravan parks in the area but which one (or two or three) are the preferred caravan parks?
Jongensfontein just south of Stillbaai
I agree. Jongensfontein, 10 kilometer from Stilbaai is the more popular camp outside school holidays and is almost allways full. Ellensrust is in Stilbaai and like Jongensfountein, belongs to the local municipality. Out of season it is mostly almost empty. It is right next to the main beach and much larger than Jongensfontein. During school holidays both of them and also the third municipal camp, Preekstoel, is usually full and you have to book well in advance to ensure a stand.
Enjoy your stay. Stilbaai is a wonderful place.

Thank you for the replies. Jongensfontein it will be.

Jongensfontein is fully booked for February
Which Stilbaai camp is the preferred campsite?
Thanks
I am not surprised. Both Ellensrust and Preekstoel in February would be more or less empty. I would therefore suggest you don't make a booking beforehand but rather visit both camps and then decide. They are perhaps 2 to 3 kilos apart, both in Stilbaai East and both on the beach. If you like hiking on the beach like we do, Preekstoel would probably be your choice.
Ellensrust is nearer town. Preekstoel was created for Coloured people under the previous regime. Both are well appointed and neat. Obviously those rules luckily no longer apply but for some or other reason in December campers seem to still prefer it that way. I think it might be because families and friends meet in their favourite camp year after year, especially at Preekstoel. To me it looks as if Preekstoel over the Desember holidays, has a much more friendly, lively social life and I would like camping there, and be most welcome but as we have a house in Stilbaai, it would not make sense. Preekstoel in fact is divided into two camps and in total is probably is bigger than Ellensrust.

Thank you Fed. That is useful info
I forgot to mention, if you happen to be a angler, the best spots are walking distance from Preekstoel. Die main beach is at Ellensrust and is perhaps one of the best in our country.
