Mountain Zebra National Park
Afternoon,
1. Please advise on the current condition of the access road into Mountain Zebra National Park. Towing a Jurgens Classique caravan.
2. Is Onrus Rivier, Hermanus an option as safety and security has been very questionable lately?
Thank you
Did the road to MZNP in May.
Slight corrugation on one or two spots but otherwise very smooth for a gravel road.
Living the dream

Hi Johan
Richard/Pierre,
Thank you/Dankie vir response!
Johan
The gravel road to Mountain Zebra can sometimes be in immaculate condition - driving like a tar road. But you can sometimes also experience the opposite (as we had during May 2023) - it was badly corrugated and the day we left the park, it was raining and the road was a terrible muddy mess.

Thanks Chris,
Any recommendation in the Bloemfontein (20km radius) area. Peaceful neat safe caravan park members can recommend will be appreciated. Planning to visit the Bloem show 2025.
Thanks
The only park in and around Bloemfontein that I have experience on is Reyneke Park. Not bad.

There is also River of Joy https://www.riverofjoy.co.za and Maselspoort https://www.maselspoort.co.za
Other parks were also mentioned her, of which one is at a church. Maybe look for parks on internet.

No, it was at Bloem. I was planning to go and see it a while ago but our time did not allow for the diversion. I can't remember the church in Kroonstad ever being mentioned on this Forum. Do you have info?

I only know of the church in Kroonstad that has this facility.

Sonder Jesus is ek niks! ! ! !

I started doubting my memory myself when nobody remembered about this so I searched on Google and found I was right after all. It is the NG Kerk at Dealsgift, according to the map, just north of the city boundaries.

There is nothing on their web page but if I search for camping Bloemfontein, they are listed complete with photos. The fact that the camping does not show on the church's web page might mean it is no longer available but it is worthwhile to call and find out. I have just called but the 'phone was not answered. I will try again and give feedbank. I know the question was about camping in Kroonstad, but probably Bloem is a more popular overnight from Gauteng to the Cape- we also regularly camp in Bloem- so it is worthwhile to know what is available. According to the photos it does look most attractive.

I did speak to the church and found they do not have a camping area as such. They do have chalets and what they call a 'bunker' which is available for everyone. The fees are quite decent, R105 pp for the bunker and from R240 for the chalets, depending to the number of people to a maximum of four. I think it might still be a proposition to make use of the chalets and park you caravan for the night. It seems to be quite safe.
