Mountain Zebra National Park
We are currently at Mountain Zebra . It is a little hidden gem and well worthwhile a visit.
Added to that is that we this morning had the best lion sighting that we have ever had - without another vehicle in sight.
Never too old to have a happy childhood
It is a beautiful place. Was there many years ago on our way to Canon Rocks caravan park. Did not know they now have lion?

I can only agree that this is a real gem, which we visited for a few days earlier this year on our way to Port Elizabeth. the sad thing is we have been driving past this reserve for more than 30 years on route to and from Bushmansrivermouth where we had a holiday cottage.
I cannot tell you how many times I casually remarked to the wife, "we should turn off here one day and see what this reserve is all about"........ If only I had made the effort to turn in!!!
I will turn in at least, every time we go Down that way in future, if only for a couple of days.
Help !! How do I insert a photo here from a picture file in windows.
Saw some photos this afternoon on the Wild Card web of an Ostrich chasing an Aardvark at Mountain Zebra. Still need to tick off an Aardvark.
Mountain Zebra is where we sighted our first Aardwolf.
The Happy Campers.
I was planning to visit the park during our trip in December this year. What put me off was the 12 km gravel road to the park. It is a no no for my Van.

Just seen this now as I have been off the forum for a while. We went there in September and that road was terrible. Would not go again only for this reason. It took us nearly an hour to negotiate the drive in. It would be easy to fix. Just give it a scrape. The corrugations are the problem. Other caravanners in the campsite reported that their vans sustained damage from the road.

When we visited the park two years ago, the gravel road was in immaculate condition. It was as if you're driving on a tar road. But I've read a few reports about the bad condition of the road lately.
Maybe we were just lucky.

I did send an email to Sanparks listing this and a few other issues about the campsite and got a response from them saying that they will attend when budget allows.
Hopefully this is not just window dressing and they will actually do something.
Problems in the campsite were braais that were completely rusted through. Bins falling apart that the monkeys could access, dripping taps (In a severe drought) and general lack of maintenance in the ablutions.
Obviously a management problem.

Does anybody have uptodate info on the state of the access road please.
We are considering staying over on our homeward bound journey during May.
Living the dream

Daai manne KAN n spuitnaald skiet! Maklik en vinnig uit die helikopter.

Are you there ATM ??
If so how was the access road ?
Thanks Danie.
Living the dream

Arrived at Mountain Zebra camp site in one piece. The gravel was mostly smooth with a little mild corrugations.
The road was 100 times better than the tar road to Drankesville and up the pass, never mind the disastrous roads of Bethlehem.
We came from Bloem via Colesburg, roads excellent but very busy.
Living the dream

Richard, enjoy it is a nice park and glad to hear that the gravel road is in decent condition.
Hi Richard and Rusty. See you are still travelling. Enjoy.
