Krag vir 'n trailer/karavaan - hoe werk die dinge?
Help my vertsaan hoe dit werk asb. Seker dom vrae.
Soos ek die setup verstaan het jy nodig, batterye, inverter, charge controler en optioneel sonpanele. Help reg as ek dit verkeer het. So, veronderstel jy kamp waar daar nie krag is, hoe charge die battery?
Hooked, now we can go camping.
Hennie, you now get combination boxes that are plug and play.
See Powerforum-store.co.za
And search Sunsynk Contour
Other suppliers have Sunsynk Loadshedder a bigger unit
(Which Pwerforum-store may be able to source)
As far as connecting to your vehicld etc go, the experts need to comment please.

Hennie to answer your questions.
To camp without power (when you need power) would require a solar system which would consist of: Solar Panels which run through a Charge Controller (to avoid overcharging your batteries) and then into your batteries which will be a low voltage system, generally 12V.
You can choose to run your fridge and lights all off of 12V but if you have 220V appliances you would then require an additional inverter to convert your 12V to 220V. There are electrical losses converting from 12V to 220V (around 30%), if possible, leave the hairdryer at home.
The above system needs to be correctly sized so that when overcast and limited overhead sun that you can still keep your fridge going for a couple of days when the batteries are not charging. If you have power at the caravan site, you can keep the batteries charged and only have to cope with the period of load shedding. Having no power at all is the challenge.
There will come a point at which the costs to have power 100% of the time under ALL conditions, becomes cost prohibitive. At this point one needs to weigh the cost vs. benefit and make a decision. I would tend to bite the bullet up front as it is easier to get a good system that to constantly try upgrade. Or buy a system that is upgradeable. So you may wish to buy an oversized Charge Controller so that later you can add more Solar capacity and another battery without any major issues, only wiring.
The plug you see at the rear of vehicle (Brad Harrison plug) that feeds the trailer is a 12V is to allow you to run your fridge while driving. This is essential as camping fridges lose temperature rather quickly. If set up correctly your car alternator will also keep your solar batteries topped up. I had an inverter in my normal caravan and would run 12V from the car to the invertor to power my 220V fridge while driving. One of the best things I did for convenient camping.
There are many permutations and solutions to the problem. When you find your solution it does make camping life so much easier and opens up new possibilities.
Go discuss your requirements with a reputable dealer and see what is best for you.
One too many wasted sunsets, one too many for the road.
Thank you Andrew for the explanation.
Now I understand how it all works and what component is responsible for what task.
Thanks again.
