Me and the wife can get an old Jurgens Delux 440 for free. It has been standing a while and i see there is some wood rot to it to. any advise please?

 

This will e the first time in my life taking on something like this, never owened a caravan before so any advice would be helpfull thank you.

 

Our very first caravan back in 1973 were a 440 de lux, we had a double size tent made and camped with the wife and two girls all over

Depend what you want to do ?Restore it or repair and sell it. seeing that it is for free, a couple of rand to be spend might be just worth it

We want to repair and use it, it has tents witch is in a very good condition. And its just me the wife and one girl.

 

Just a bit worried about the wood rot. Any ideas for me please?

Depends on the amount of wood rot but if it was me I would grab it with both hands.

Wood rot can be overcome. My present 1993 Caravette 6B was diagnosed with wood rot in the nose part a number of years ago. If you know how to dismantle the relevant parts (if you are a handy man) you can totally overcome the problem.

I am not a handy man and had mine done by Cara-Camp in Somerset West. They have done a superb job and we have had many fantastic trips with the van since then.

Thus, if you see your way open to tackle the job - go for it.

I am a handy man got my own company to in maintenace. So ill tackle the job and get it done then.

 

I will try to take some photos of the old lady. and the process and end result. Might have a couple of beers while working on her. Hahahahaha

 

Yes progress pic's would be great.

It makes me think of the time when I tiled a bathroom for my children living in Romania. It was August (peak of summer) and extremely hot. I referred to it many times as the project where I had to drink a beer after every tile laid.

Not having a caravan currently I would give what ever for a project like this. You must enjoy it.......... wherever possible go with new technology.

I am desperately looking for a Jurgens 440 you are so lucky!!!! Please let me know of you get bored with your project I will gladly take it off your hands:)

Jeepers this brings back memories.  The caravan my parents towed, had the same wood paneling and upholstery in.

This is a gem.

Weet nog nie of ons die kassies gaan vervang nie. eers net die ou dame reg en op die pad kry, en meskien n kamp of twee in werk en dan van daar af besluit.

 

Sy het 'n diens, skoonmaak en 'n polish nodig.  Dan gaan die wa sommer klaar spiekeries lyk.
