Hyundai Santa Fe FWD
Good day
I am looking for a new (used) tow vehicle. I can get a Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe in my price range, but only the front wheel drive versions. The AWD is too expensive for me, unless it is almost out of guarentee. Is it a problem towing with fwd? I would think that the size of the vehicle would make the fwd less of a problem than in a lighter vehicle, or am I wrong?

Max, I do not have experience of owning or driving a FWD. Just one year down at Balito on a very wet rainy day, I came across a family battling to tow their van up the longish incline towards the upper road . They had camped down the road towards Salt Rock. They were in a FWD and had the kids on the bonnet to add more mass on the front wheels for traction but it was not working. I then hooked their van to my Isuzu and pulled them out to the top road.
They were on their way home somewhere near Johannesburg. I wondered how they were going to deal with the hills at Pietermaritsburg with the rain pouring down.
The FWD may have a traction problem with weight on the towbar.
Regards

Thank you Theo and Fred for the responses. Luckily I managed to find a 2020 Santa Fe AWD with 40 000km on the clock in my price range. I got an extended guarentee from Hyundai till 2029 with unlimited km's. So my concerns about the FWD are no longer an issue.
