27 Dec, 2023 @ 20:55:51 pmHettie The Gypsy Romany is much too heavy for a 1500 automatic car The engine is too underpowerd and if you did try towing with it the auto transmission would overheat Just remember the loaded weight of the caravan must not exceed the tare weignt of the towing vehicle very important
31 Dec, 2023 @ 16:56:52 pmMy Romany's Gross Vehicle Mass is 940 kilograms. My wife's Polo's GVM is 1087 kilogram. Its 1200 cc engine output is more than 80 kilowatt. It has an outo gearbox.
I am not saying it can or it cannot. What I am saying is that engine capacity is no longer a factor in towing. A recent test shows that the new Land Cruise bakkie with the 2,8 liter diesel engine tows a three ton load just as well as the same bakkie with a > 4 liter V8 diesel engine.
Hettie which car are you referring to? What is the GVM (on the license disc) and what is the engine output? That info may put one in a position to make an informed decision.
However, if it is a CVT gearbox I will discourage you to tow with it.
