I have just bought a 1990 Caravette 4 [T 640kg GVM 800Kg] and wonder if someone has an owners manual of which they could send me a copy.

I need basic info on :-

* Operation of fridge [original 220v/12v/gas]...setup on 220v only at present + has no battery

* ChargeMaster Mk2 ... would like to add battery to system if 220v fails [eskom]

* Tyre presure ... need ideal towing specs within 800Kg GVM [Tow with Isuzu 250D]

Any advice would really be appreciated from the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

I hope someone can help with the manual. I cannot remember getting a manual when I bought my first two caravans, new. Someone should be able to help with the fridge.

What do you have in the caravan other than the fridge that can work off 12v? If nothing else, I wonder if it is really worth the costs. If only the fridge, I would still not bother .... without 220v the battery power will not last and the gas should be better in the long run - generally speaking, the 12v is only usefull while towing.

You should have no problems towing the 4 with the 250D - your Caravette is very light. The weight issue is discussed at length elsewhere, but don't bother looking for it - what is important for now, is that the caravan's GVM should not exceed the tare of the tow vehicle - you have plenty of favourable scope.

As far as tyre pressure goes, follow the tow vehicle's tyre manufacturer's recommendation for a load. Being an older model caravan, tyres may have been changed and original recommendations will no longer be valid. However, I have found 2.4 comfortable on my 1988 Caravette 6.

Thank you for your feedback.
Apart from the fridge, I assume the lights could run off 12v if properly connected on the Chargemaster. I will approach a professional to try sort the lights. We previously had a Scotty caravan and in 2011 we were at Shingwedzi in KNP and had lengthy electricity interruptions.
I will try the 2.4 on a trial run with the van properly loaded and appreciate your comments re the weight issue. Thank you.

When I built the island bed, I  took pictures in colour before before moving the chargemaster in order to ensure I reconnected correctly.

If you are handy in any way, then you can open the box, compare and then follow the wiring - if this will help, I can post the other connections as well. The 12v should be identifiable on the box.

Would be glad to have pics of any other wiring points you may have as I may need to replace some of the wiring. I like your common sense approach to taking pics before making any changes!
My 1990 caravette4 is 23 years old [bought 27-8-2013]and am working through the entire van during the next few months to do maintenance and restoration. Have been researching old issues of Caravan & Outdoor Life mags for basic tips.

I posted 4 more - My Caravette per the photo alongside is a 1988

Remember - SAFETY FIRST - disconnect power from the caravan before working!

My fingers were put in the way to make sure of the exact position. Hope yours looks similar, then it should not be too difficult to compare, but could be confusing for those not so D.I.Y. inclined.

My neighbour is a retired "Sparky" and his motto is "if you cant use your neighbour then what good is he"!

I have recently joined this website and forum as I have very recently bought a Gypsey Caravette 6 1989 model.

I am also looking for any documents on the Caravette caravans, especially the fridge instructions as I am struggling with the 3 way Gypsey 12v / Gas / 220V fridge.
