Does anyone know where I can get replacement gas struts for my skylight in the van. I've taken them out. It's a Dometic skylight and I have contact them they say they don't have any of these anymore for the model skylight I have. 

Hopefully somewhere in the PTA area.

Hi Brian, there is a thread about 'gas strut pressure' where they can pump up your struts. etc

In it is a location that supplies them in Pretoria namely at:

"Diesel Electric" in Church Street, Pretoria, between the show grounds and the railway line dip.

They also stock struts and related spares etc

You can also try McNaughtans. I got replacement struts for my canopy from them in Cape Town. They have various sizes and end fitting adapters and also pump them to the required pressure. I see their HQ is in Joburg.

The struts look to be in good shape still, so re-inflating sounds like a good option.  I have had some done by Al-Ko so you can try them too.  Mine was over 40 years of age but not in use anymore, and the operation was a success.  The cost is much less than that on new ones.,  Make sure when you reinstall them (or new ones) to have the cylinder at the top and the shaft below in order to keep the seal wet otherwise the gas soon leaks out.

My gas struts cannot be re-gassed. I have spoken to Loftus they can get new but at a hefty cost of R2599.00 each 😮 I have found an alternative at RS Components for two at R 1392 for a pair. They will be imported from the UK.

All the other local suppliers don't have anything near the size I require, so will place the order tomorrow 5-7 day delivery. 

One of the guys at AlKo locally also told me it canno be done. I asked them to try and guess what? It worked!  I think it is just a case that they don't want to do a R60 job instead of charging you a few thousand. Try shopping around.
