Dometic RF 180 C Fridge
I bought a used sprite splash caravan of 2006 fitted with Dometic RF 180 C fridge. The problem I have is that I can't get the gas function of the fridge working. Anyone using this fridge please assist.
Simon, I have the exact same Dometic fridge in my 2005 Exclusive. You will have to provide a little more detail of what your problematic experience is.
- I gather the fridge works perfect on 220V
- Are you sure the LPG gas reach the burner at the back of the fridge ? You can turn the stove burner on for a few minutes to ensure the gas flows properly to the kitchen area
- You should press the the nob (next to the flame image) and turn it anti- clock wise. Keep it pressed in while pressing the red button three or four times until the little green light lights up. Then release the knob.
- If this does not work, try to ignite the burner at the back through the bottom vent from outside by using a gas-ignitor while someone presses the knob facing the flame image. The burner at the back of the fridge is located under the chimney.
Hope this helps.

Simon, it is not uncommon for wasps to build mud nests on the burner. The burner has a mesh screen over it so take care not to damage it.
Open the ventilation panel on the outside of the fridge. Get someone to activate the spark ignitor and firstly establish if you have spark.
You may have the ignition sequence out of sync.
1. There is a thermocouple that is positioned in the burner flame. The purpose of this is to act as a failsafe mechanism. When the flame is burning the gas supply stays on, when the flame goes out, the gas valve closes which prevents discharging gas into the caravan. It takes a couple of seconds to heat up.
2. There is a button that overrides the failsafe mechanism allows gas to flow for the initial ignition. This must be depressed and held depressed until the burner is lit, keep holding for another 10 seconds while the thermocouple heat up.
3. If the spark ignitor does not work then hold a flame above the gauze on the burner the ask someone to depress the gas button and see if that works.
One too many wasted sunsets, one too many for the road.
Thank you Lennie and Andrew. I will try this and give feedback in this platform.
