My wife and I are planning a caravan tour of the Northern Cape/West coast and Cape town in August and September 2023. I am looking for the best parks along the way starting at Bloemhof Dam/ Kimberley and Upington. Any suggestions from experienced caravanners will be greatly appreciated. Even suggestions further along the way will also be appreciated! Thanking you in advance.

Peter, near Upington on the south bank near Kanoneiland there is Oranjerus Resort.  We stayed over in Mat 2022 and found it quite acceptable.  

Nearer to Upington there is Die Eiland - do not confuse it with ATKV Eiland Spa in Limpopo.  I am not sure if the services there have improved since previous comment in 2019 about it.   Do a Resort search in the Northern Cape.  The name will pop up.

Just outside Kgalagadi Nat Park (5km) , there is the Kgalagadi Lodge.  They have private stands with ablution unit and washbasin with a built up braai.  We spent 3 nights there in May 2022.  Good shop and restaurant.   Did daily excursions into the Park.

There is also Augrabies National Park.  Lovely resort.  Has a baboon and mostly monkey problem - take a catapult and some marbles.

Bloemhof Dam has caravan stands and an ablution block BUT hopefully someone can brief you about it.   I drove in there - its in a Reserve - and found it unfenced, toilet paper streaming through the veld from campers that fish and do their business in the bushes.  I left.   

South of Kimberley there is Richie.  I think it is called Riverside.   The past reports about it were good as I recall.  Again someone may be able to update you.

We made the mistake of over nighting at Bloemfof Nature Reserve once. Never again.

Moved to a place called Die Oord. Driving through town  you turn left just after the Spar, cross the bridge over the Vaal River and it is the first place on the left. Found it acceptable for over night camping. Not sure if it still exists.

Sandveld Nature Reserve is another option. Took a drive through and found it acceptable.

We stayed at Cristiana caravan park a few months ago. We found it sub standard and will not use it again.
