I have just spoken to a Senior (Head of Traffic) regarding weights of code EB license,  here is what he said, and confirmed by Snr State Prosecutors:

With a code EB you are allowed to drive a vehicle on SA roads where the vehicle's GVM  is not exceedind 3500kg, you are allowed to to tow any size Caravan with a GVM not exceeding the Tarra of the tow vehicle.

The only trick, so to speak is, your tow vehicle have, on its vin plate,  CVM Combined Vehicle Mass,  printed (stamped) on it, in total you may not exceed that as stated as on your VIN Plate.

In short, a tow vehicle's GVM could be 1800kg and your van GVM is say 1200kg, but the tow vehicle's CVM is limited to 2400kg, then you are illegal. This is just an example to illistrate, you are thus exceeding the safe load as specified  of the tow vehicle.

Hou ook in gedagte, dat as jou sleep voertuig se GVM oorskry word, is jy ook onwettig. Sou jy dus soos ek die tent in my kar sit en nog wat, dan loop ek die risiko om ook my kar se GVM te oorskry. Dis nou waar bakkies soveel meer kan laai as ek met 'n kar.

Ek het tot die slotsom gekom, laai dit wat ek gaan gebruik, en koop aan soos nodig.

When mine was weighed at the Swellendam provincial weighbridge they checked lots of things.

Tyre specs on both vehicles, Tare of tow vehicle, GVM of the caravan, CVM of the tow vehicle they then proceeded to measure the distances between the axles (all three) as well as the overall distance this was all plugged into the their system which then spat out a number which said I was overweight by 100Kg surprised

Fortunately I pre-arranged with them while I was in Swellendam to weigh the van so never got a fine wink

                 Gross Train Weight                          5950kg  (handboek) 

                 GVM                                                 3200kg  (lisensie)
                 Tare                                                  2087kg  (lisensie)

Die Classique:

                GVM                                                  1490kg ( Lisensie)

                Tare                                                   1266kg (Lisensie)

Ek het 'n kode EB lisensie. Is ek nog binne die wet en wat is my CVM.

Volgens my is jou maksimum CVM dan 5950kg Ford se specs.

Die Ford mag jy laai, GVM - Tara (1113kg)

Die karavaan  GVM - Tarra (224 kg)

As jy dus nie oorlaai is nie is jou CVM- Ford GVM + Classique se GVM, (jou Ford se CVM is 5950kg maks wat hy mag gaan) maar jou kombinasie se CVM 3200 +1490 =4690kg

Dus is jy wettig, maar soos ek sal se, ek mag verkeerd wees, kom ons hoor wat se die ander manne.

Hoop maar ek maak sin

I am just currious, as a 100L water rank = 100Kg.

Johann I only had 15l water in the tank at the time. They allowed me 5% so loosing the 15l water brought me to within the allowance they allowed. wink

I would not take for granted ANY Tare stamped on a Jurgens caravan, and assume you can load the difference to the GVM. 

The only way to be sure is to have it weighed at a weighbridge before and after you load it. I promise you you will be shocked.

Om Willem01 se voorbeeld dan nou verder te vat.

Eerstens is hy binne wet wat Tara betref want Karavaan se GVM is 1490kg onder die tara van 2087kg van die Ford. (Dis nou vir die Spietkop wat na Tara kyk)

Tweede is hy binne wet wat CVM betref want die GVM van Ford (3200kg) en GVM van karavaan (1490kg) saam gekombineer is 4690kg presies 1260kg onder die CVM spec van die Ford. (Dit weer vir die spietkop wat na CVM kyk)

Derdens kan die Ford nog 'n S/wa van ongeveer 1260kg agter die karavaan sleep. Dit sal maak dat hy slegs binne wet is wat betref CVM. (3200kg + 1490kg + 1260kg = 5950kg die CVM van die Ford)

As die GVM van die S/wa minder of gelyk is aan 597kg sal hy binne wet van die Tara ook wees. Want dan is die GVM van karavaan (1490kg) en GVM van S/wa (597kg) saam minder of gelyk aan die tara van die Ford (2087kg). 

Die is nou net bekyk van uit 'n gewigs oogpunt.

Die enigste rede waarom ek hierdie so uiteen gesit het is om te wys dat ek ook woord somme geleer het in standerd 1.
