Hi

would like some advise,we recently bought a Sprite Sport 1990 model, upon roadworthy i only noticed that the caravan is registered as a Gypsey and not a Sprite, all other info corresponds, could the traffic department maybe have made a mistake upon registration many years ago,if so,how do i get it corrected? As,i bought it from the 1 st and only owner who bought caravan new in 1990.

any advise please

thanks so much

If chassis number and all other number correspond with the registration papers, you will not have a problem.

My previous caravan, Caravette 4, 1981 model was registered as an unknown.

Nothing to be worried about.

Enjoy your camping with ease.

My 2007 Sprite Swing registered as a Jurgens Swing.

Don't need to worry about it

My Suzuki Grand Vitara is a SUV but registered as a Stationwagon

Agree with the above comments, but I'm sitting with a problem, which may cause me to re-roadworthy my cruiser.

The licence disc states that the GVM is 0 kg!

I asked someone at the licencing office about it & they said I'll probably have to re-register it as they cannot alter the original certificate.

Grrrr.

I think I'll just act ignorant if I'm stopped and challenged.

Hi John
The licence disc on my Sprite shows the Tare and GVM are both the same at 978KG - which technically means I can't even store my toothbrush in the van.
The registration paper does not indicate the GVM, only the Tare weight, and so does the Licence paper. Only the circular licence disc shows both.
If I were to be stopped and the Tare/GVM issue was queried, I would refer the official to the information on the plate rivetted to the chassis which contains all the correct information of the caravan.

Been there--done it. ( Talking about the bathroom )

I would not even bother. If they were not worried about it up till now they will not bother with it any way.

They only check the registration no and the date on the disk anyway.

My '81 Sport also registered as "unknown". Never had a problem before with it and have been pulled over in roadblocks a couple of times where they checked license discs.

Douglas & Leon, I believe you are quite right.

When they pull you over & check your disc, they are only looking at the date, I'm sure.

I have not worried about it before and am certainly not going to start now!

But it just goes to show the current ineptitude of our authorities!!

My Sprite wys ook Jurgens. Soos julle sê, al staan daar trekker sal spietkop ek dink dit nie eers agter kom nie.

Same problem, my Fleetline is also registered for 0kg GVM (maybe its meant to only carry Helium and should float?). never had any traffic cop questioning this....so thats the way she will stay (was like this since 1995)

I think that the only time that will be called into question is if you're / we're pulled over for obvious overloading.

Like a pile of goods on a roof rack meters high, and the exhaust scraping on the ground.

They would insist on a weighbridge to ascertain whether the actual mass is less than the stated mass (0kg) on the licence.
