Hi there - just been reading the "creativity" suggestions and someone suggested stok brood - now!!!

how exactly does one do this? i had it once and don't think it worked correctly the dough was too sticky and leaked - is it meant to?
what do you eat with it and what type of dough should one use?
is it easy and hassle free or a real mission.

Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Heidi

Ons gebruik gewoonlik sommer die deeg wat ons by die Supermark koop, dit werk nogal goed.

Heidi Yes you can use the dough you buy from the Supermarket. You can use dell sticks about 15mm in dia. Buy it at your local hardware shop. Rub a small amount of butter on the stick and after you rolled the dough in long worm like pieces you twist it around the stick, make sure the bottom end is properly sealed. Then off to the fire you go and when it is nice and brown, not burnt you pull it off the sticks. Take some butter and syrup and mix it well and put it in one of those tomato sauce holders and squirt the butter/syrup mixture in the bread and enjoy.

Shawn, I don't think the people above won't react on your  posting now, their remarks were made many moons ago!!! Anyway, there are numerous recipes of stokbrood that can be googled.

Another option is to use the same dough you buy at the supermarket. Roll the dough in balls, sprinkle with cake flower and let them rise. While braaing, you bake your bread over the slow coals until cooked on the inside & light brown on the outside. Serve with real butter.
