Hi, all

I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my new secondhand Skipper torpedo, I have a carport at home covered with cromadec for the roof. The front and one side are open to the elements so i am considering to cover that with

shadecloth. I live in New Germany with lots of rain, so my concern is damadge to the wood .The chassis is hot-dipped calvanized so that shoul be ok. Is it good to get a cover to put over the Skipper or would that keep moist in?

Any advice regarding this matter will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jan, I reckon that's about all you can do.

Do a word search on woodrot and I'm sure there's plenty of advice in previous posts.

A friend of mine that is in the caravan repair business said that the sun is a caravan's biggest enemy. So I would think the shade netting would be the most important addition.

.

Jan, my caravan get stored underneath a shadeport with a cover.

The covers are manufactured by Canvas and Aluminium Concepts - (011) 613-2916 as per your request.

I have mine now for nearly 4-years and still last.

When it rain, the material dry out very quickly and does not leave damp behind underneath the cover.

The colour is white and therefore allow minimum heat to the caravan itself.

Quite pricy for a cover like that, but worthwhile at the end.

Anthony, I do not think I am lucky.

I am lucky how my protection was setup.

I stay in the East-Rand, luckilly not in BPlaughing, but my setup is a tripple shadeport, which is situated on the east side of my immediate house.

My caravan stand underneath the shadeport section closest to my house.

Therefore my caravan get minimum sun during sunrise, minimum during mid-day and zero during sunset.

You do get different makes of caravan covers. I know that the canvass and alluminium concept one is the best. Durable material that breathe and lasts for many years. They are not cheap but worth every cent. The plastic type does not last that long and more important does not breath and i was told that the plastic type gather moist and keep it inside.
