Good day

happy to have come across this site. ALOHA! Thinking to park an overland truck on our own plot that has no house on it but not sure whether there are any municipal laws restricting this. Basically building an open garage for it and parking it on the plot while we are not travelling. Are there any restrictions in the Western Cape?

Thank you so much Pat

Usually with a development there are building requirements so they can assist you with that and then you will have to contact the local "Mislikepaliteit". Between them you should get an answer.

Out of experience I know that any living-type unit on a municipal site constitutes a taxable asset. Where will you get the sewer connection and will you require electrical power? You will have to apply for those connections, WITH some form of site development plan. SDP. This will have to show building plans of some sort. The minute you venture into that and do not make things FORMAL they may think that you are squatting.

Unfortunately this is the fact.

Wellcome Pat.

Suggest you contact your local municipality and suss out the situation before you do anythiing, to avoid expensive reparations later on.

By the way, even if this is a new SA where anything goes, it still remeains correct behaviour to do the right thing.

If you can't win them and you don't want to join them, be better than them (a la Pieter Dirk Uys many years ago)

Hallo Mars

thank you for your thoughtful reply. I agree. There are municipal bylaws that stipulate what size vehicle can be parked in a residential area but it all seems slightly foggy and different in different areas etc. I shall investigate...
