Dagse,

I would love to know what the towing specs are for the old Valiant. ie what are the Tare and GVM and AXLE weights.

During those old days one never bothered about the weights and the law , If the vewhicle could pull the van that was good enough.

I think those Valiants would have pulled a jumbo down the runway.

Brian, funny enough, in the late 80ties I had a Chev Commodore 3.8, actually rubbish, no power. At the time I owned a 1984 Sprite Sunway, about 1080kg GVW. I replaced the Chev with a (I think 1978??) MB 350SE, POWERHOUSE!!!!!, stop nowhere for nothing, came from Eiland (Long Tom Pass??, all the Ford V6's pulling off to cool down, Merc just kept going.

I think in the 80'ties we were limited to very few cars that actually hed enough power, but then also the speed that we towed was lower???? Good old days!!!!

Daai ou motors brul mos net harder as jy die petrol trap, niks anders gebeur juis nie.
In my jong dae het n Jurgens Manefiek B net my Alfa 2000 gesleep, hy kon wragtig sleep.

Het altyd gese in my tyd

A very good friend of mine who, has since passed, had a Valiant Rustler (bakkie) which he used to pull his caravan. His son still has it.

Congratulations Herman.

I was in the panel beating motor trade during the Valiant era. (The 60s.) Tough as nails, powerful and made not only the best tow vehicle, but was also the most popular vehicle to be used as a taxi! ‘n Wit ou se taxi. I can’t remember if they were V6 or straight 6, but could go like the clappers! I had a straight 6 Ford Zephyr 2 liter those days, and boy o boy, could that chorrie go! 90 miles per hour on the clock, and could do it! Petrol was no problem those days. 25 cents a gallon (4, 5 liters). I did Krugersdorp to Scottburgh on R12.00 and in something like six hours!

Happy towing. (Join us at Bloekompoort and come brag!)

Regards.
This is how we spent the last fifteen years - working our buts off!

My dad always talks about his Ranchero that he had. He said it was a very friendly vehicle, because despite having 2 fuel tanks, it still stopped and visited every petrol station it saw...

I think you older guys had more fun with those older, purely mechanical vehicles. I know his gearbox failed while towing and he MacGyvered it open into 3rd, and towed all the way home like that.

These days it's waaaaay to complex to even attempt a repair. All I see when I open my bonnet is a plastic covering, battery....and a place to plug a damn computer in!!!

Dan moet ek dit by hom koop.
Wonder wat dit nagenoeg werd is. Skoonseun se die kar is vreeslik mooi en heeltemal gerestoreer.

Had a quick look on Gumtree. There is a station wagon needing work for about R35k. Does seem to be an older model though. Otherwise a fully restored sedan for R65k.

My sus se dogter ry een my dogter en my stiefdogter ook onlangs nuut gekoop.
