well we have been here 4 months now and have really eased into the south coast life style, whilst the weather has not always always played ball , between the wind and the rain we again have met some incredible people and been to some amazing places. between  the wind and the rain we have got the boat out to sea with some good fishing and some not so good fishing, have learnt that when the northerly winds are blowing the fish do not bite but in the mild southerly winds the tuna and dorado are plenty, on the last outing myself and a crew member had a double up and both dorado were out the water, its like they run across the water on there tails , when a shark leapt out the water and took one, my line went slack and all i got in was the head.

quite a while back we met a guy at the boat launch site who we clicked with almost immediately and became good fishing buddys , a very knowledgeable guy, took me out on his boat a few times and showed us all the good spots etc. invited us to his place at leisure bay and gave me a lesson on preparing the right tackle for the fish we target, this all paid of cause since then we been nailing the game fish. we found out a short while ago that this guy is the owner/ founder of camp master, who would have thought......... we still fish together often and im always getting new ideas from him.

the same guy above is equally knowledgeable on the wild coast and took us on a 2 hour walk on a section of the wild coast, we first drove to a remote part of the coast by 4x4 then started the walk, we explored the caves along a deserted beach and could clearly see a layer of what looks like old shells 4 meters above lining the tops of the caves which was once the sea bed millions of years ago, infact a half a kilometer walk in land there is a donga caused by soil erosion has that same layer of so called old shells in it indicating were the sea bed was a long time ago.anyway after much exploring later we ended the day with a late lunch at the wild coast sun,

we  went for a drive through oribi gorge a while ago on our way to lake eland, where after much debate we plucked up the courage to ride the zip line........ wow, a little scary at first but turned out to be a fantastic ride, its four and a half kms long they say run over i forget how many sections. next was the suspension bridge which is equally intimidating however we did walk across it to the vantage point on the other side, the view from there is certainly worth the crossing, finished of the day with a drive through there private game reserve.

well thats it for the time being, the above is just a few high lights of our margate stay, got 2 more months to go then heading for yellow sands, however still got a couple more things to do before we leave.

no worries mate

Moeg geploeg.

Transkei is lovely to stay in and adventure but do not know of decent camp sites. Coffee bay had a camp site but it did not look to good years ago.

Paul, we were and still are unsure of camping in the transkei , besides our caravan would not last on most of those roads, so we are exploring half the transkei from this side and will explore the other half from yellows sands.

You can make this an appointment.  Think I am going to look for a Dorado here  in PTA.  Will not be fresh but it worth the search.

Hi George, glad you still enjoying Margate. We enjoyed Richards Bay tremendously, but KZN does not have the same quality beaches, that we have in the Eastern Cape. We also did the zip lines at Lake Eland, where we spent the week-end to participate in all the activities there.

You will enjoy your stay at Yellow Sands. We will see you there in the new year. We are currently in East London. Let me know which stand you will e on. The owners have moved the long term campers down to the river. I do not know if this is just for the Xmas period, but cannot see that it will make them very happy. The river is where you would launch your boat, so this would be convenient for you - about 250 m from the river camp sites. There are only two small ablution facilities there. They have also made there in-season from the 1st November, a bit inconvenient for me.

Green Fountains near Port Alfred is worth looking into. It is about 7 km outside Port Alfred and has private ablutions for each s rs. The closest launch sites would be Port Alfred and Kleinemonde or something like that. Fish River mouth is also close to that.

We also thoroughly enjoyed van Staadens, but the see is mad there and we did not see anyone launching boats from there. I think they launch from Gamtoos Ferry Caravan Park on the Gamtoos River or from Jeffreys Bay. Chokka boats were very active in the area, when we were there in March/April...

hi edge, good to hear from you again. those sites by the river next to the boat launch would suit me fine, when i made the booking they said i could choose any vacant site i like , so i be looking to get out the wind and close to the boat launch , will check it out when we get there, whilst i have been talking to green fountains and willows i will be talking to them a lot more as time gets nearer, i would like to stop at them both after yellow sands.

Hi George,

I would then recommend the sites closest to the sea-side of the river camping area. The ablution there is a little more rustic, but slightly more sheltered...
