A no go for a C5. On a C4, depending of the model.
My brother in law used to tow my ex 1981 C4 with a Golf Rox 1.4 with a bit of suffering.
If you really care about your vehicle, my suggestion is a "No Go" for both.
Trust this answer help?

We also own a 1.4i Corsa bakkie, and no way will we tow the Sprint with it. Firstly, it's front wheel drive, and also that little engine is not very capable. You will spend a lot of time changing cogs on even slight up-hills.

My son had a little Caravette 2 and towed it with a 1.6i Corsa and still used the gears excessively. He then bought a 2.2 Ranger and said to me that he only realises now how much strain that Corsa took.

Those Corsa's are nice, but they're not big on torque. It's going to be a less relaxing drive than what you'd be looking for. If you want tow it 10km to the local dam, sure. Any further, I would not recommend. You will be towing, but it's going to hurt your vehicle

I would rather recommend a trailer setup. Well stocked "camp-in-a-trailer"setup. Maybe a good tent setup in a moonbuggy Venter.

Or a Zippa trailer. IF you can find one.

Bridgid. If you still have your Corsa look for a Caravette 2. I have just towed one from Mossel Bay to P.E.

Distance 400km

Wind 0 - 25 knots cross/tail with heavy rain for most of the way.

Speed 95+ cruising. Down to 80km/h in 4th up hills.

Fuel consumption 9,4l/100km. It will change with a head wiind. (8.8 town)

It was a far easier tow than my old VW Caddy with a Hobie 16 on the same road.

It is not viable to change your engine. Sell the bakkie and buy another one.

Would I fit a towbar to my wife's S60 auto for the odd 400km+ trip. Definitely not .

I hope this gives you a better idea.

Corsa bakkie is perfek om jou karavaan in jou erf rond te skuif. Moenie by die hek uit ry.
