Your opinion, input and experience please - Daily commuter vehicle
I am looking at buying a new replacement car. The Kia Picanto 1.2 EX has 200 000 km on the clock and actually going strong and in a very good mechanically condition and very good overall. I will keep the Kia. The new car will commute +- 90 km daily. Prefrable an automatic transmission, reasonable light on fuel, and that will not break on services and to maintain in the long run. Nothing more than R 300 000. I will value your input. Thanks. Hennie

Look at the Suzuki Swift, a hatcback or the Ertica which it its sedan version. The Starlet as Mawonga mentioned is a very attractive car too which is in fact a badge engineered Suzuki Baleno. The original Suzukis often has a slightly lower price and might have a better warrantee and service contract so do compare. With both makes you are looking and very enonomical no nonsence cars.
There might be some Chinese cars in this catagory but I would stay away from them as their quality and after sales service is somewhat doubtfull.

Agree with Fred
Haak daai wa kamp bly koning
Gaan toets bestuur iets wat vir jou aanvaarbaar lyk. Sommige het deesdae so min krag. Ek het noudie dag vir 3 weke n huurmotor gehad....populere kar, maar krag bittermin. As ek wil verbysteek en een rat terug sit....basies geen verskil, soos n volume knoppie...net hoog en laer.

My son own the Ford Eco Sport 2016 model - Ecoboost with a 1.1cc engine and he get in traffic in the region of 11 - 12 km/lt and with quite a lot of power due to the turbo, which came out std.
Long distance - Between 15 - 18km/lt at a speed of 120 - 130 km/h.
He bought it at Centurion Select at R170k with 74000 km on the clock.
The vehicle used to be an old lady's vehicle.
We had our time as campers as well as permanent.
The time has come and go to say G/By.

Its not a car but I can only recommend the BMW1200 GS.
I will never trade mine for any other vehicle to travel with to work and back.
Between 18 to 20km/l. Apart from the fuel consumption traffic has little influence on your traveling time. With a proper jacket and raincoat I use it come rain, sunshine or winter.

I had motor cycles from the age of 16 until 2005. They are great to avoid traffic and easy to find parking. In all those years I had 3 acidents. The last was in 1979 which landed me in hospital for 6 weeks.
I would rather recommend one of these new hybrid cars or a straight EV (expensive). They give a similar consumption as a motor cycle but gives you the advantages of a car. My neighbour bought a Toyota Urban Cruiser (hybrid car) and gets 22km/L in town.

Paul

My brother inlaw and my sister own the KIA 1.2 with 185 000 km on the clock and also automatic.
They went down to Knysna 2x and back with zero problems.
According to my inlaw, he mentioned that the consumption was +/- 16 - 18km/lt @ 120km/h.
I went with him to Union hospital last week and cannot believe the soft driving for such a small vehicle.
In my opinion a very good buy.
If you want to sell the KIA, kindly advise your selling price, because of us gave up camping, we however looking at something like that due to that the X-Trail is much to big for the city.
