Hi Bridgid I live in Melkbosstrand Western Cape am not a full timer but enjoy the occasional camping spree , although not longer than 1 week at 1 place
My preference is doing road trips especially along the garden route as far as East London
When my wife was still alive we crisscrossed the country from south to north ,east to west . Since her passing I keep to shorter trips

Bridgid and Benkie, to me it sounds like a jolly good idea that the two of you should meet up somewhere.   I can vouch for Benkie, great guy.   Bridgid,  you will enjoy his company.  He joined us on three occasions already.   smile

Hi Bridgid,
My wife and I really enjoy watching Carolyn's blog. Ladies who travel alone should watch her adventures whilst travelling through the USA. She's very independent, experienced and her blog is entertaining. She has a very big following. The USA of course can't be compared to the RSA when it comes to security but she does give a lot of tips.

Hello there
New on this forum and I must warn all of you = completely outspoken, independent and free spirited.
I am a self obsessed traveller / nomad and I feel very strongly that there arent enough women out there doing it for themselves in SA. Definitely need to find them. Am planning a year (maybe 3) long circumnavigation of Southern Africa with my 80year old mom and working along the way.
Have youtubed the hell out of SA Nomads but they are hard to find.
Very very soon you will be able to follow my mom and I on our journey.
I do have a lot of experience travelling on my own (mostly the stigma of being a single female nomad is somethign to deal with). We will be dealing with costs, security, food and everything else (with a lot of help from those people on here. and will be doing a blog and youtube channel. But that will all come shortly.
I am planning on starting a movement to get solo women out there and doing their thing their way.
So this is the beginning.

Nope wont be having a dog.
When i did a lot of solo travelling over the years i used to hahve an 18 year old miniature poodle who had glaucoma and a bad attitude with no teeth. But he loved travelling. I do have a cat that we may cart around with us.
Havent seen a need for a dog. And I just feel that in this country having a dog brings more probems than soltions.
I have done an entire article on safety for solo women travellers and will post them here.
Actually its a range of articles. I think i am just going to start getting solo South African women out there and on the road. Not that I am anti men or anything. I just feel that the excuses that are made are invalid. I was in more dangerous situations in my own house and horrible things happened to me in a house.
In all my travels = and i have done Joburg to Saldanha Bay (23 hours) in a tata indica.
I have also done 3700 Km in 6 days around the karoo in a corsa lite. So yep. I have done it and not once have I felt unsafe. But my article says it all and I will post as soon as I can.
My message to solo female SOUTH AFRICAN nomads is JUST DO IT.
Start small with local getaways and then as you gain confidence = go further = eventually you will be throwing a doos of wyn in your boot with some clean broekies and disappearing for 2 weeks.

That would be fantastic. I look forward to meeting up with a fellow solo traveller. And I must admit that I am more of a traveller than a camper but tillenjilles site is a darn wonderul thing that they are doing - will give the opportunity of staying for a month therefore getting to know the area, the locals and really getting into the feel of where you are at.I adore women who just do it without excuses.
If you go and look at my post on SOLO WOMEN NOMADS - SECURITY in the general chit chat section you will see some of the things i have learnt along the road.
To be a solo female traveller does not mean we have issues or that we dont have family (I have three children), it just means that we prefer doing things our way, on our terms.
The solo woman nomad movement is really taking off across America and although americans really annoy me a lot, they are onto something here. There was even a happily married woman who was a solo nomad - her hubby hated travelling so she got herself a van and off she goes.
I am just finishing up "what vehicle to choose" and will post shortly.
But if all you have is a car then that is 100% (I have done some epic trips in cars) and a trip in and around SA can be done in comfort and safety.
I live in Fourways Johannesburg.

I havent got a site yet. I just want to share my experiences and later on get my business up and running - something i can do on the road and that is not available to any travellers or campers yet.
Sounds fantastic - Corsa bakkies are strong little cars.
I am a way off yet to start my journeys again. But will keep everyone updated.
