Ek begin 'n nuwe draad vir my Buite Opwas Plek want ek sien ons kaap Lein se draad.

Good day all the happy/unhappy Campers,

I like the idea of having your scullery at your van, but I think a very relevant question would be, how do you contain your dirty, soapy, fatty, eggy, waste water.???

Does one collect in in a suitable container and dispose theroff in the sewer system of the Resort or is this messy bussiness also dumped on the site or in the vacinity of the site to act as breeding place for flies and other pests.

I mention also dumped at the site as some people do with their soapy, flaky, dirty, shower water.

What about general hygiene, spreading of germs and the poor sucker that must pitch his camp on your dirtywater dump???? Makes one think many years back to Oshivello (or Oshivlieë) in Ovamboland during the Bush war were everyone dumped his wastewater all over

Does resorts actualy allow this practice, as I would like to know before I invest time and money into such a solution.

For some or other reason I still think it to be best practice to use scullery facilities provided by the resort for this type of thing.

Would like your opinion on this matter as I currently make use of a 25L drum to collect the shower and handbasin water from the Surfers outlets and dispose of it at the ablutions or Porta Potty facilities of the resort but scullery water won't be as easy to colect and dispose off.

Seeing that André has responded in English I will too, but this is NOT the intention of this thread.

  1. Who has camped next to me ?
  2. Who knows how I handle my dispose water ?
  3. For the 3 weeks that we have been at ATKV Eiland Spa our sink stand and 2 plastic basins was set-up and sometimes had water in, but same as last year we had Anna who did all our dishes.  Some times before we even got out the caravan and we paid her at the end of our holiday.  She does make use of the scullery area.
  4. I have a plastic bath that catches all the caravan grey water as I have joined them all 3 in to one outlet so can control it.  The dirty shower and tooth brush water gets dumped in this bath and when it’s full and the so called solids have settled I pump the water to the closest drain is available.  If there is no drain close by like at Eiland I pump it in a storm water gutter that I dug for rain water, the water never gets to the end.
  5. In all the years that we have caravanned We NEVER had any one approaching me w.r.t. grey water and also never since we have had a caravan with a shower, from 2007.
  6. I think that the amount of grey water that I dispose were the resort have not provided me with a drain point is less that a health risk than most of the bathrooms when in high use, even at Eland were I know the cleaners and were they have complained to me about the disgrace use of the facilities.

If your experience is that of what André’s concern then change your camp site’s.

If you need to make this a debate please create a thread were everyone can put their grip’s and suggestions.

Frown

Thanks for the reply Willem,

Definitely a workable possibility of catching the wash water in a plastic bath.

Further possibility might be to also use a 25l drum but then I will need a drainplug and pipe from the basin otherwise one would need some type of a funnel to get int into the drum.

After concidering the hassles in getting rid of the waste water in a hygienic way, the Resort scullery with a little trolley to get the dirty stuff there might still be my best solution.

Don't worry about my dirty dish water....It's the bleedin water I wash me undies in....Surprised...

Depends...

Remote as I was there, soapy I dispose of into a "Grey-water" 20L drum, especially as I'm close to the dam water.

Rinse water I water the bushes, there is nothing to harm anything. The grey I'll tip at the nearest place I can.

Toilet I dig a cat hole / trench 200 - 300mm deep (still in the biosphere). TP I burn,

When I break camp, I close the trench with a hump then compact with the Landy by driving over it a few times.

At a resort, I'll tip into the drain

Slightly quicker downhill....
These days a teeny-tiny bit more slightly quicker....

Hi Andre'

Yes Oshevello......

1975 / 6 ?

Again 1978 ?

Again 1980 ?

Didn't they condem the original camp and re-build..... If memory serves, they just left all the pit latrines in situ....

Anyhow, that's not the matter here...

Not getting at you but would like to put something forward...

Like the thread pets at resorts... it's a question of RESPECT...And I suppose upbringing...

Now, I never had much in the way of parenting... But that another story... But I did learn RESPECT

I'm shure, from what I've seen of Wil, he won't be one of those that dumps grey water...

I'ts a relatively easy thing to catch dish / grey water in a 25L drum... A trolly.... A home made funnel from a 5L kannitjie and you're good to go.

I personally don't really like using scullary facilities at parks, what I do is use my tubs at the scullary. If I wash at my pitch, I dump in the scullary,

showering at a place that provides ablutions, I have my showering plakkies, but that's just my "fiemies".

But is it not up to us, as campers to "educate" those that don't have respect... Civilly, nicely... give solutions and Ideas to those that don't consider other's?

My absolute worst is the dude having a pee in the bushes @ 02:00 in the morning... Pee in an empty Tropica coldrink bottle & empty the next morning if you must...

Like I said in answer to DK, even @ a remote pitch I tote dish water out. Shower water I use soap designed for the purpose (it does not harm the environment)

Gotta go

Hi WilSur, I love your idea, looks great and is very functional. Can you advise me as to how the roof of the structure is mounted on to the top of the caravan. Is there a mounting which is fitted to the roof of the van for this structure to fit onto?

Like on the front side I have fitted the same type extrusion were the tent slides in on the side of the caravan.  With the Exclusive the roof is high and the water will not flow towards the caravan like in the pic's above.

Enige manier so lank mens gemaklik is met jou kamp plek.

Terugvoering ...

Code                     Name                                  Pump    Type

Len
