Hi Bob,
I noticed you asked "what" and not "who" - in both cases. MY WIFE!
David, you beat me to it........... my wife
Hi Dorian,
My wife may be a "what" but honestly, I think it would be boring if I went alone, even though I walk around at night from one fire to the next!
Binnekort XUV500 met Camplite
David you and Dorian are really stirring, I think we need to instatute a wooden spoon award on the forum and so far David you are the first recipiant.
All in good spirit - all in good spirit - life is too short to be serious all the time, especially in my line of work!
Sorry Gents, Duncan has had that title for years!
I tow with a 2006 Kia Sportage manual 2.0 CRDi 4wd. Just getting run in at 201 000ks.
Towing a 1994 Sprite Escape, soon to be extensively modified
Actually Duncan, on second thoughts, he can keep it - I'll buy my own.....afterall, why should I share it?
By the way, back to the topic - my rig is alongside ...... probably the smallest engine used to tow on the forum 1248c.c. and it does a brilliant job with the C'6 (better than a Granada I used to tow a Gypsey 5 back in '85.
I tow a 1992 Gypsey Caravette 2 with a 2003 Mercedes Benz A-class 160.
Wonderlik en sonder probleme.
Die enigste bekommerniss is n bietjie min asem in Sabie se wereld.
I don't have the smallest engine but I think I have the smallest (non-foldable)van.
Sleep hom soos 'n droom gebruik meestal 5de rat.
Kamp ook so af en toe nog met net die tent.
Gypsy Romany of Echo 3 bos wa en my voertuig is 'n Isuzu 3l Dteq 4x4
OK, apart from the wife, a GWM 2.4 Steed 5 D/C towing a Elite 6 Venter trailer with all the gear. We are still doing the tent thing. One day when I grow up maybe the tents will grow into a beautiful caravan?
David (DR) and Gerd, if you talk Nelspruit most probably Longtom Pass??? Many, many moons ago I had a 1984 Sprite Sunway, and the drive machine was a 350SE Merc, 1976 model. One year we had to to leave our holiday destination (Eiland???) in a hurry because of sick child, the 24th of December, very, very hot!!!
I glided up that pass in 2nd, with aircon on!!!!, and at all the possible stopping places there were Ford 3l bakkies and sedans, all BOILING!!!!, just waving at us!!! That day I got respect for the Merc!!!, OK, fuel was cheap!!!, and money was not an issue, so we did not complain about usage of less than 4kilos per liter!!!!!
Back to the thread, as per my avatar, we don't camp no more, but we thank the Lord for the many years we had the oppertunity to do so!!!! and will NEVER forget that, it is imprinted in our minds, and we can recall it any time (again, thank the Lord for that!!!!)
Mine is a 1995 Isuzu 2.8 DTE d/c 387 000 Km and 1995 Sprite Escape II and is probably the oldest combination here except Andrew beats me by a year
Frans, Dr. Drake , not neccessarily only Long Tom Pass, I think there are similarily steep - if not steeper sections around elsewhere, where the towing car also suffers in 2. gear.
But yes, Merc is fine regarding coolant temperatures. November 2012 I travelled in Namibia (without van) in 38 - 44 degrees outside temperatures for hours on end and with aircon on.
NO Problem whatsoever.....brilliant..
I tow with 2011 Kia Sedona 2.9 CRDI auto and I camp in my 2005 Penta thats my is my dream come true.
I think the only vehicle that will tow longtom in top would be the Discovery 4 and that with a venter behind it.
Dammit ELNOR...that's just rubbing noses in it!!! Jealously makes me nasty!
@Alan, I would have loved the Escape 2 that you have...could'nt find one at the time...wanna swop?

Paul I've never heard of an Imboza caravan before. What model (year) was it first registered?
Ons Kamp met n 1993 Gypsy Caravette 6B en ons sleep met n 2005 Nissan Pathfider 2.5 Diesel
Warren, that looks very cool. How about some pics of the interior? Does the canvas stay up for towing, or fold flat?
Ook einteindelik weer gekamp met camplite en XUV500

Hi Elnor,
Depends, From zip-open-climb-in-zip-closed-sleep to:-
add 15 - 20 min for the awning
add 10 min for the screen
add 10 min for the kitchen
The rest I fiddle in after coffee, 14 pages from my book, n' rond-stappie, nog n' slukkie Coke Cola...
on my own...
