Hi to you all, we will be travelling from Warner Beach on the Natal South Coast to Forever Resort Badplaas in a weeks time.My other half and I have a difference of opinion as to which route we should take! Serf wants to stay on the main highways and I want to go "cross country". Can anybody advise us on road conditions and or which roads to avoid.
Many thanks, Joanne :)

Rode the road last week from Margate to Nelspruit.
I went Margate,Ladysmith, dundee, Vryheid, piet retief etc etc down to turnoff to badplaas, where I went on to Nelspruit via road to Barberton and down to Nelspruit.
The road is very good all the way with virtually no potholes. Good for towing and not busy at all, petrol stations are sufficient but their pit stops are filthy and not good.

I know there are a number of stop go's on the route that runs between Ladysmith and Newcastle, Ermelo etc but cannot comment on that.

Why not travel via the N2 to Piet Retief-Amsterdam-Short right on N17-Short left to Badplaas.

Just not sure if the road works between Pongola and Piet Retief are finished.

The other alternative is Ladysmth-Newcastle-Ermelo-Chriisismeer-Carolina-Badplaas.

What ever you do don't even think of using the'" cross country"from Pietermaritzburg - Greytown= Tugela ferry= Dundee North of Greytown it is utterly a disaster, with potholes, reckless driving, animals etc etc, virtually impossible with a caravan on tow.

I went that route once without a caravan and took twice as long with all the crawling, dodging taxi's,people, animals and potholes.
Never again in my life.

Hi graham - I did that route once!

Once too many - NEVER AGAIN!

Joanne, go the route advised by Graham. I've done it plenty of times - better way to go!

Regards.
This is how we spent the last fifteen years - working our buts off!

Hi BC,

Yes extremely dangerous route, even more so if you should break down.
