Both should be excellent tow vehicles.
I have no experience with either but on paper they are both right up there. It would be nice to hear from oeners.

Hi there, welcome. I had a Vito 2.2 cdi, unfortunately did not use it for towing. I think it would be a good towing vehicle, but only if it was an auto. (burned clutch on ours). If you plan to buy one, look at them very carefully and walk away even at the slightest doubt. we sold ours because of too much problems. Injector, turbo and more. That said i know several people, happy towing with them.

We own a 73kw Kombi, base model.
It tows like a dream. We obtain around 8km/l towing a Sprite Splash to the coast.

Obviously you are referring to the present Kombi, which is a completely different animal from the old 2.1 flat four 82Kw and I have no knowledge about this except what I read. 

We used one as a tow car for almost thirty years and it was super.  It towed much better than you would expect with such low power because the torque maxed at low revs and the gearing was perfect.  When we started using the Kombi, just aboiut every second tow vehicle was a Kombi.  There were always arguments around the camp fire about which was the better tow vehicle: a VW Kombi or a pich-up.  Bakkies at that time had about the same power as a Kombi, so the argument was more about which was the most stable in front of a caravan, and in this department the Kombi was agreed to be tops.  Without the caravan on the hitch, the Kombi was very susceptable to wind, but interestingly, when towing, it was very stable.  Consumption also was quite acceptable.  We budgeted on 13l/100km at about 95k/u as against 11.5 at 120.

I still pine for my Kombi, which was besides a tow vehicle, a family car, a pick-up, a furniture mover, a capable off roader, a camper and just about anything else you could think of.

Ek is besig om 2013 VW T5 (combi) Trendline (75kw) te koop. Ek sleep n 2000 Gypsey Romany. Sal dit n goeie sleep kombinasie wees?

Klink bietjie swak.  Die Kombi weeg seker reeds 1800 kg en met 'n sleepwa agterna, gaan jy waarskynlik sukkel.  Maar dan, syfers sê ook n ie alles nie.  Ons het omtrent 30 jaar lank 'n Sprite Supersport met 'n 2.1L Kombi met 82 Kw gesleep en hy het baie goed gedoen.  Dit was destyds 'n baie pop[ulêre sleepvoertuig.  Ons eerste sleepvoertuig was 'n Peogeot 504 1800 CC  wat maar 60 Kw ontwikkel het en heel goed gesleep het.

Ek sien sy wringkrag word aangegee as 250NM tussen 1500 en 2500 RPM. Dit is darem 'n diesel, so hy verbaas jou dalk. My Kombi was maar 174 Kw, so 'n mens weet nooit- dit gaan afhang van die ratverhoudings. Volkswagen beweer hy kan 2200 Kg sleep.  Lat weet hoe jy vorder.

Het is beter rijk te leven dan rijk te sterven

Fred op grond van jou ondervinding en die torsie syfers v d Kombi glo ek hy sal baie lekker sleep. Die 75kW enjin dink ek is ook die meer betroubare een volgens mense se ondervinding.

Ek het met 'n 75kw 'n 2005 Regal gesleep, en nou 'n Penta.

Die Regal het hy soos 'n droom gesleep, en brandstof verbruik was so 9km/l teen 105km/h.

Ek het onlangs die Penta gekoop en hom nog net huistoe gesleep. Moet sê, vir die hele 900km het ek 'n sterk noordewind in my gesig gehad, en my brandstof verbruik het afgekom na 7km/l teen 100km/h.

Daardie 2l melkkannetjie verbaas mens met sy sleepvermoeë.

Ek het toe die 2013 T5 gekoop en hy het my baie verbaas. Ek het die naweek Hartenbos toe gesleep en hy sleep baie lekker. Ek het 10km/l gekry, wat ek dink baie goed is. Daar was nie baie wind gewees nie :).

Ek kan n "Sofware update" laat doen, wat die krag met 25% sal verbeter. Wat dink julle van dit? Dit gee dan amper 100kw, wat nogal baie is.

My stuiwer in die armbeurs.
Laat ons appels met appels vergelyk.
Petrol voertuie sit dalk met 200 kw enjins. Porshe en Ferrari met 300 kw. Maar waars die r.p.m.
Diesel voertuie is anders. Ek vat my Jeep. 165 kw maar 510 nm teen 2000 r.p.m. dis een enorme verskil. My vorige petrol jeeps was beide petrol met 200kw motors maar kom nie eers naby die diesel en brandstof verbruik nie.
N sleep voertuig met minder as 200 nm teen hoe rpm gaan sukkel met n redelike karavaan soos Splash/penta of swaarder. wat meer as 1300kg weeg. My ou volvo met 100kw enjin kon ook sleep masr ek moes die enjin aanpas met n ander camshaft en hoër druk om die rpm kragkurwe reg te kry. Van reenen opwaarts moes hy ook terug geskakel word na 2de rat want rpm was te laag vir 3de rat. Deesdae se motors het meeste vvt enjins.
So wat ek se is kyk maar na waar sit die nm krag teen watter rpm. Vir sleep doeleindes is die wringkrag (nm) teen lae rpm die antwoord.
Ons kan ook nie die ouer kombi,s vergelyk met die nuter tegnologie nie. Dis hoekom die ou kombis wat vir sleep gebruik is toegerus was met V6 Ford essex enjins.

EK WIL NIE FAAAAIT NIE. SE MAAR NET.

Tommie ek sal nie karring aan die software nie. Dit is gewoonlik nadelig oor die medium/langer termyn. Jou verbruik was regtig goed en jy is in jou noppies so hoekom verander met RISIKO na software upgrade.

Ek stem Danie. Ek het voor ek met hom gesleep het navorsing gaan doen, want ek was bekomerd hy sal dit nie kan maak nie. Maar dink ek gaan dit eerder los.

Tommie ek dink dis ook belangrik om te let dat VW op hul 103kW modelle die ratkas verander het na 'n 6 spoed. Dit is blykbaar algemeen dat die 5 spoed ratkas sy beperkings het en daarom die verandering.

Ek het nog nie met die T5 iets gesleep nie maar ek glo hy sal lekker sleep as ek vat hoe die voertuig sonder 'n wa trek. Natuurlik is daai brandstof verbruik 'n groot bonus saam met al die spasie.

Sal graag hoor as jy trugkom wat jou totale verbruik was.
