I am looking at buying a caravan in Gauteng and will need to get it to Port Elizabeth. I would prefer not to have to tow it all that way.
Can anyone recomend a company who can do this at reasonable rates.

Thanks.

Hi Tent@ and welcome to the forum.....I had the same problem last year, It was more expensive to rail it down then to tow it. I might have the quotes on my PC,
Someone on the forum might advice differently....just hang in there and advise will come.

Welcome.

See it as a good test tow. If you can combine it with a holiday, fine. If it is impossible, do it over a weekend. Drive through on Friday evening. Sleep a few hours. Saturday night Bloemfontein. Sunday evening you'll be  home, tired and satisfied.

This should be the most cost effective option, but you might get lucky.

If the seller is desperate enough, try to make delivery a condition of the transaction.Wink

Happy camping.

Welcome on the site, i agree. With Somerkamper, make it a short holiday, of three or four days and enjoy the road back home and sleep over every night.

Welcome to the forum.

Fetching it yourself is likely the cheapest option if you can combine it with a short stay in our beautiful province (good day-life and good nighty-life).

If you can, combine it with 2 or 3 days in Krueger.

Welcome to the forum.

It's going to be a difficult one. I had a similar request when I bought my trailer because I couldn't get time off from work to fetch it in Durbs.

The 2 main reasons why I couldn't get it transported to me was one, because my trailer did not have a break so they won’t take the risk. I would have thought that you could anchor it with chains around the axle and wheels but I don't know the safety issues when transporting goods. However this won't be a problem for you.

The 2nd reason was the jockey wheel. Vehicle transport trucks does not have a track in the middle for the jockey wheel so you would have to go for a low-bed which means that you can't share the cost with someone else so the entire bill will fall on your shoulders.

At the end I had to fetch my trailer myself but turned out to be a nice little break.

All the best.

Yep, did the same my side.
Bought our new "Pophuis" in Pinetown, towed my "BosApie" down there (trade in), got the new 'Van, came back, lekker quick sleep on the way back, and had a good "run in" with the 'Van as well!
Managed to do it all over a weekend, so I was sorted!!

Thanks to all for the replies.
Yes I agree the best would be to take a drive up to the big smoke to fetch it and stop over a night or two on the way back but curcumstances just do not allow.

"Frogie" Yip Somebody myst be transporting these things for the dealers and I'm sure they are not paying the R18500.00 I was quoted yesterday!Eish.

Anyway Looks like somebody else is going to look at the van tonight and may well be taking it so maybe it was just not meant to be!

Happy Camping everyone!

Pasop manne!
Cheers vir altyd

Do not part with any money untill you are 100% sure, even if you loose this deal, rather a lost deal, than lost money.

If I still had leave available to me, I would have volunteered to tow it to Bloem or Colesburg for you, but unfortunately I used it all up in the Kruger.
