Hallo all
I purchased a new Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD6 Raider and would like to know whether I still need to use my trapezium stabilizer to tow my Jurgens Classique? The manual indicate that it has built in auto sway control. Previously, I towed my Classique with an Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCI Auto but it is a nuisance to reverse with the trapezium. Can I trust the sway control on the Hilux or should I stick with the trapezium?
Please advise
Thanks
Andrew

just like insurance policies - totally useless until you need them. use the trapezium and be safer rather than be bothered about the hassle of reversing - which is difficult at the best of times

My 1c

Towing without a stabiliser (even if the tow vehicle has sway control) is like not using the seatbelts because the vehicle has air bags. My Ranger also has sway control but I still use my Tando. When you really need that stabiliser you would wish you had used it...(I don't know what the limits are of the bakkie's sway control and I'm not planning to find out...so the stabiliser is always but always also used; as we used to say in the nuclear energy business "defence in depth", the more safety/defence layers the less the risk for something bad happening)

Agree with everyone above that one should tow an Exclusive with a stabilizer. I use a ALKO 3004 Stabilizer and just love it. No sway not even passing big trucks. My driving speed, if everything is clear is 106 km/p GPS on speedcruise.

I am a firm believer in the Trapezium and agree with the above advice.
Be safe and have peace of mind.
For reversing, simply screw the lock screw in, remove the arm and go for it.
Regards and safe journeys.

I was also told by the dealer to screw in the lock screw and remove the arm before reversing...but on another topic we discussed it and seems like it is not necessary to do that...you can leave it as is. The only time when you lock it is when you tow a trailer etc.

I also had a Trapezium stabilizer way back. Great device and I never used the lockscrew when reversing.

I must then suppose that it is a precaution so as not to bend the arm.
Unfortunately I have never been able to see what takes place whilst reversing, as I am always the driver.
Thanks for the chat.
