Hi Guys
My first question since joining the forum and drawing loads of useful information from all of the experienced caravaners and campers.

Just want to know if anybody has experience in towing with a new Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Manual

We bought the car new end of last year as my wife's 2011 Hyundai Elantra 1.8 reached 120 000km's and a long list of things that needed doing just outside motorplan made it better to replace.

We have been towing our 1996 Jurgens Expo with the Mercedes C200 Kompressor Manual with no issues at all.

As it is coming to the time of the year when one starts to clean up the van and start camping again, I have been toying with the idea to give the Tucson a go with the van, but my concerns are that the NM of of 196 @4000 RPM

If our test run goes well with the Van I am aiming to use it for a bit of a touring holiday I am planning in January 2018

Although my wife and I only started our caravaning holidays last year I am not a newbie, have grown up with a caravan in our household as child and we went on long holidays every December to different parts of the country which to this day I treasure memories of.
Must admit the few times we went out with the van last year the excitement to start the journey and preparation in going a away was very similar to those of my childhood memories.

Thank you
Cornelis

Have heard NO bad reports about towing with this vehicle.
If diesel, it should tow better than if it is petrol model...
The tourque seems more than adequate.
The best way to settle your fears are to take it away for a week-end close to your home, so that you do not start with a long stressful journey if your expectations are not realised...

It is a 2.0 Petrol The Nu 2.0 engine introduced by Hyundai last year :-)

We stay in Randburg and my thinking was to take a run out to Magalies area. We went to Deo Juvante last year and also paid a visit to Camp Thornbirds both of these were absolutely stunning weekends.

Also if someone can give some guidance as to which aircon to fit as my better half requested that I do this. :-)

Thank you
Cornelis

Hi. Ek dink hy sal lekker sleep.

Lekker sleep.

Baie Dankie Johann help baie!!

Dankie Pieter, jy is reg.

Cornelis, you can increase the Expo's GVM to the carrying capacity of your axle or tires, wich ever is the smallest. This will come at a small cost to yourself. Read the topic in this regard if you wish to have more info.

So if you do add an fridge and or aircon, jou should be fine after increasing the GVM.

Payload is 390Kg?

You will tow the expo with no difficulty. Due to the petrol enjin you will probably change a bit more gears but thats no problem.

With regards to the Aircon you can have a look at a 9000BTU. The caravan is relatively small but you do loose isolation because of the pop up roof with surround canvas.

By installing the aircon and maybe a bigger fridge take note that by doing that you reduce the amount of weight that was available for the rest of the camping equipment. Note that this includes your main tent and rally so in the end it leaves you with very little for chairs tables pots pans food, drinks and clothes.

If I remember correctly have a look at the weight rating of the tyres fitted to your Expo. There are not much leaverage there for extra weight as they are 13" or 14" rim tyres.

This is not to scare you is just so that you make a note of the weight implications.

I love camping all year round
