Afternoon fellow caravaners. I am looking to buy a set of mirrors for towing my caravan. I tow with a Toyota Prado and find that the clip on mirrors do not fit the large rear view mirrors.

Can someone please advise a mirror type that will fit the Prado mirrors

Happy caravaning

Patrick

Had a similar problem with my Touareg mirrors - tried absolutely everything but could not get the tow mirrors to remain where they were supposed to be.

Only alternative is a camera on the caravan ..... problem sorted!

I second that advice, I had the clip on mirror on the Everest the first time I towed the regal and no matter how tight you fasten them, they just vibrate and they are more annoying rather than useful. I purchased a relatively cheap 2 channel DVR plus 3 cameras for the car as a dashcam. One is fitted to the bull bar, the other to the top of the tailgate. Inside the boot there is a plug joint with a extra cable which goes to just behind the towbar, this then connects to the caravan camera which is fitted on the back of the pop top. Works like a dream.

You do get the clip on mirror with rubber straps that allows for a large side mirror adjustment.  That said, it has a down fall in that when the adjustment is opened wide the stiff or sturdy mount of the clip on mirror is lost.  You will then have to improvise a support from the clip on mirror to the side of the vehicle door to help with the support.  Since 2011 I have been using this. Works perfectly.

At the Montana Traders next to the Kolonade Mall in Pretoria North they now have this system.

It is a monitor with forward camera continuous recording and rear view camera.  All you need is the extra cable also available there in 5m, 10m 15m or 20m to position the rear view camera at the back of the caravan.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems a camera is the answer.

Happy caravaning. Stay safe

Stopped using conventional rearview mirrors for towing long time ago. Tried a number of different ones and always had problems with them.

Normal reverse camera is the answer to see what is behind you. Also helps with reversing when nobody is there to guide you.

Ek hey my linkerkantse spieël gebreek tydens 'n onderonsie met 'n vlieende duif  naby Eastco Muldersdrift. R500 boete is my voorland.

Jou spiëel storie val nou mooi in by sy gesegte.

Rhett I have been using the camera system since 2011.  First on my Jurgens Classique and now on my Sensation Maia.

The system I use cost me about R700 in 2011.  Is is similar to that of the blue box in the picture I placed above.

The wires are all plug and play and it really is very easy to use.  The issue comes with the installation.  You can install it so that you see no wires at all permanently or loosely so that you can remove everything quickly.

Its up to you to decide on that.
