Just to share my experience.

Fitment centre refused to accept responsibility for lights not working ... every time they checked, lights would work - when I got home lights eould not work.

After weeks, the end result was lights would work with the boot open but not closed. Fitment centre had coupled to the internal lights which swit h on when boot opens and off when closed.

These fitment centres can cirtainly be a bunch of cowboys. I bought a brand new MB in Centurion and specified a tow hitch to be fitted. When I collected the vehicle I lifted the carpet and was a bit annoyed by the metal "cuttings" left in the boot after the fitment. For some reason I had to do something in the boot days later and was horrified by what I saw. The fitment centre rather than drill holes with a special long drill bit, had used a long sharp instrument and punched holes through the metal into the boot area. The bolt holes on the inside of the boot had a serious mushroom effect and holes were all odd sizes. The sharp instrument had also pieced through the wiring harness inside the boot and had damaged the wires. No thanks never again.

I work on my vehicles myself. At least I know that I am not going to create a serious problem for myself further down the road.

This is the rubbish we must be satisfied with.

You should take the vehicle back to the dealer show the dealer principal.  He must then tell you what he is going to do with the bad quality and workmanship.

If he does not take any action tell him in a friendly way that he must watch facebook and twitter because his dealer name his name will be mentioned along with photos of the quality that they provide.  You did give him a change to rectify the issue, if he choose not to thats his problem. You have proof and gave him a chance to fix it.

I see it as........... if you do nothing................ the next buyer will have the same quality work done and sit with the same problem and everyone will start to think that it's okay................. it must be done like that.

Leon you and I think on the same line. This is just the standard these days. I feel anyone can make a mistake but hey when you do the checking you should see what is wrong and correct.

I had more or less the same problem with a dealership factory fitted towbar. The guy used a white wire from the lock for the fuel cap instead of the white wire to the brakes for my trailer socket. I only found out many months later when I towed for the fisrst time. I thought it cannot be but sure the brake lights did not work.

Corrected myself and just informed the dealership of bad work done and for them to take it further in house.

I agree with you...

I do however feel the South African market is busy correcting itself and as our economy improves so will the quality again...

if those fitment centers don't improve they will be out serviced by better quality and accountability

This can only happen if the bad quality is made visible. Only if we force the service provider to do something about it.  I can provide examples where the bad quality of work provided was excepted by the manager as normal. This is how it should be done. That manager was appointed because of BEEEeeeee. Not because he was the best candidate for the post.

So I beg to differ.................. the only way you will prevent this from happening to the next guy at least is make waves and if your waves are the size of a pebble in a pond I can tell you now nothings gona happen.  You must drop that whole car in that pond with most of the water splashing out to get the desired reaction.

The reason for this is that manager will never repremand the person at fault because HE then becomes unpopular with not only that person but the rest of the workers.

Seen it at every place I had the opportunity to work here in SA.

The only way to fix this is to create a sence of proudness about your work. A sence that I am the manager because I can do all my subordinates work better than they can do it. And for any of them to become a manager they must do the work beter than the current manager.

If I am the gardener at a certain business in town. Then I am the best gardener there is.  If clients come to this business they should be amazed by the gardening and if that looks so well and perfect just think how the service of the place would be.

The attitude of all workers should be like this. Whatever you do you must be the best or at least strive to be the best.

As jy goeie kwaliteit werk wil he... shop rond en rapporteer.

As jy goeie kwaliteit werk verlang gaan dit jou kos.

Moral.

Pryse, spesifikasies, ens., gekry. Ry Pretoria na Boksburg toe. Ek is daar voor die eienaar oopmaak. Hulle ruk my sisteem uit.  Ek is nou van daardie tipe wat by my voetuig staan en kyk. Ek sal nou nie my neus indruk behalwe as ek iets verkeerd sien. Eienaar bly my prober weg kry.

Deesdae se ambags manne noem ek: Instant Coffee.

Nie geweet daar bestaan so iets nie.
