Donovan, welcome to the forum.

I would think that if this is in the sun then I would make sure that there was some airflow so I would leave it up with the vents on the pop up also slightly open to give it some air. You will soon see if you go in there and it's all moggy and miffed up the I would increase the opening to improve the airflow. Hopefully you don't have too much dust blowing around as then it may get a bit dusty inside.

Don if the roof is lifted it will collect dust even with a cover which i believe is not good. In the closed position and locked, the canvas of the roof is less exposed and the wind if any will not wear the mechanism of the roof.

I see that you are situated next to the coast in Durban.  Due to the higher humidity in that area I would make sure that there is lots of airflow around the caravan. This is to prevent the moggy and miff Brian was mentioning.

Another reason for the airflow is if your van is standing in the sun with that cover over the heat build up under that cover is really hot. So mush so that a candle can melt inside the caravan.  (Happened to my brother)  This heat is not good for the wall paper inside the van as it will start to make bubbles and come loose and the sealant on all the joints of the van will start to sweat out.  This is visible in some place on the outside of the caravan where dust usually sticks to it.  If you see this its wise to reseal your caravan.

Then you must ensure that the cover does not flap in the wind.  If there are dust between the cover and the caravan fiberglass the cover rubs that dust into the white fiberglass causing brownish patches that no soap or even thinners will remove.

In some cases one would think that a cover over your van is best,  but if that caravan is standing in the open that cover is maybe not such a great idea.

But it is all for your self and how the situation at at your place.

I for one will only pull a cover over my caravan in the same situation as JIN (Chuck Norris) stores his caravan.

I also live near the ocean. The caravan is under shade netting, which is also on the side facing the ocean. I leave the roof closed, but open the caravan on a regular basis to promote air flow.
