Am interested in the Scout 950GVM and want to tow it with a Nissan Livina 1050Tare weight. The Nissan rating is 80kw and 254NM. Wondering if the Nissan will cope.

Greetings Dirk, I do not remember the details, but I had a  Livina several years ago and there was some reason that I could not use it for towing.  Before you go ahead check with the agents, and check the specks for the Livina relating to towing, I think the limits for this car are  around  500 to 600 Kg.

The Livina is a great car and we never had a moments trouble with ours, I also am a fan of the Sprite scout, but can't fit it into our garage " Door height" but have found the perfect solution in the "SKIPPER " which I tow with a Duster.

The auto model has a CVT transmission and cannot tow more than about 650kg.

I tow my Caravette 2 with my Nissan NP200 bakkie which is 1600cc and may well have the same motor as the Livina, and is fine. The van is the same as the older model scout. However I do have a manual gearbox.

Tks for all your valued comments. I am currently pulling a Skipper with the Livina and it is a dream . The Skipper is only 580kg and at times i find myself going 120 forgetting the trailer behind me. We two pensioners and have been on the road now for 2.5 years . Have had serious problems with mould on the canvas and have left unsightly marks. Are looking at other Vans that match our Livina. Car still in excellent condition 80000klm and not a moments trouble thus far.

Your vehicle has a tow rating.  This you can get from a Nissan Dealer or

Look on the ID plate of the vehicle.  There is normally 4 different weights specified on it. Other than the two weights given for front and rear axle there are:

• Gross Combined Mass (GCM).  Normally the biggest value that implies the weight of your vehicle with the weight that it can tow combined.
• Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).  Normally the second highest value that implies the fully loaded weight of your vehicle only.

If you subtract the GVM from the GCM it will tell you what weight the vehicle is allowed to tow.  This will be the same value that the dealer will give you.

If the answer is above that of the GVM of the Scout you should be fine.
