Can anyone please tell me what the height is of a Sherpa Rough Roader or Sherpa Tiny if it has garaging wheels on it?  The normal height is 2.2 m for the Rough Roader but it should be lower with garaging wheels.  The opening to my garage is 1.84 m so am hoping it will fit in / I asked Sherpa Leisure this about a year ago and am still waiting for a reply from them.

Paddy and Paul had a Sherpa. But doubt that they would know the measurements.  Campworld sell these gargage wheel so you maybe can find out from them what is the size and the calculate the diffrence from the normal to the garage wheels.

This means you have to lower the van 36 cm!  That is not going to happen, I think. I would suggest you measure the distance from the floor to the lowest point of your wheels which probably will be the brake drums- if the Tiny has brakes.  This would be the maximum amount you will be able to lower the van of you have wheels made that would just lift this lowest point off the ground.  I had the same problem with our Sprite Supersport and made steel wheels myself as I describe above.  I could not lower the van too much as the shock absorber, which was the lowest point, was not far above ground level.  It was just enough to get the van into and out of our garage with very careful ministrations of the jockey wheel to first lower the one part (back or front) and then, after passing the axel, the other half.  But it was such a bother to keep on changing wheels.  That was one of the two main reasons why we bought a Skipper.

I used those wheels with success and a lot of headaches. Just be careful regarding the height of your van from the floor when those wheels are fitted. My chassis was so low so that I had to use two trolley jacks when fitting it. A big one to up the van and remove ordinary wheels. Then fitted the small wheels and lowering the van onto yet another small trolly jack before lowering the small wheels up to the floor. The distance between the floor and the chassis was to small for a proper jack.

I the rather opted to up my garage door so that J could get the van in the garade.

Changing the wheels every time before a trip would also worry me.  Probably why the garage wheel idea never took off by storm.

If it was me And I had to park the Sherpa in the garage i would make two wheel lanes in the ground to lower the Sherpa that way and keep the original wheel on.

But I doubt that even this would be enough. As Fred said 36cm is a lot.

I am considering it now at the new house in Ballito.

The height of garage doors is something that has bugged me for a long time. Often you see houses with at least one garage door built higher obviously to accomodate a caravan.  I would think it would be wise while you build a house, to do this as a matter of common sense. Even if you do not own a caravan now, you might one day have one or would need to sell the house sometimes in the future.  Such a door will certainly make your house more desirable to someone that needs the higher door.  It will on the other not inconvenience someone that don't.  In some cases the garage ceiling might be too low to do this, then you would not have this choice off course.  The cost of using a non standard door and frame should not add significantly to the cost of the house.

Either two wheel lanes dug out in the garage floor or opt to raise the lintle of the garage door.

Ek sal eendag fotos post as ek weer daar kom.

WAARSKUWING:

Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend 😁

As jy daai wiele oorweeg...Roadque se pryse in Pretoria is goed...ek dink onder R500 n stel

Oh the joys of living in a townhouse!  If I could park it next to my unit there would be no problem.  I think I will have to shelve the idea of a Sherpa.  Too much PT involved.  Thanks everyone for your comments - much appreciated!

Normally the park wheels connot reduce the height by more than 22-24cm on the 200mm brake drum as used by Jurgens CI. May be the idea to shelve the idea will be the better idea as most who have used it found it too much of a problem to get on and off.

My beskeie opinie.  My wa staan 30km van my af.

I have a Road Tripper trailer which I like very much but would prefer to have a van where I can walk around it inside.  I will just have to vasbyt for the time being!

I checked the trailer you mentioned out on the net. They seem to be a great camping trailer.  From what I saw there are a few shapes and sizes.  I specifically like the one that looks more like a small caravan other than the teardrop shape.

I think Edge has a good suggestion......Skipper is different from trailer camping
