Not familiar with the area but on Google Maps it looks like the P522 that passes through Jozini is tarred. Suggest contacting the resort for the best route and road conditions.

The road is tarred all the way to Kosi Bay borderpost.  Road in good condition, but has many, many speed bumps (most unmarked). Also, lots of stray animals.  Add at least 60 min extra time to your travel time: speed will probably never be over 80km/h.

Saw the camp on our way to Ponto. Will appreciate feedback.

Hi Estelle.

Has the road from the border post to Ponto also been tarred? If so, it means one can effectively drive to Maputo on tar road or am I wrong?

Yes, it is a beautiful road. Turn off to Ponto about 5km from border post on tar.  Tar road stops just before entering the town itself.

Feed back I got from friends is that the tar road goes all the way to Maputo from Kosi bay Border post.

And at that time they were in Ponto D'oro the tar road was not finished yet all the way into the town. So its similar info to that of Estelle.

That is good news. Means we can enter Moz at Komatipoort and travel to Ponto on tar road instead of having to circumnavigate or go through Swaziland. (Eswatini)

The road is tarred to the entrance gate at Ndumo, do not need 4x4 to get to campsite. Enjoy

I believe you would need a 4x4 with off road caravan to reach certain campsites in Ponto, as the tar road stops just before turn off's to beach road. We brunched at Ponta D Ouro Camp (highly recommended), but you can get to this campsite with a normal caravan. Grassy sites, mostly protected from wind, huge trees and neat ablutions.Friendly, informative owner, but no sea view, although the beach is about 50 meters away from campsites. Security good with boom gates and guards.

From Ndumo, a day trip to Ponto is very easy, especially if you need to do a recce for future trips to the coast.
