Some years back I travelled To Punda Maria camp via Elim and Malemuele. The road turned of from the N1 just past Bandolierskop.
Do anyone know what the present road conditions are up there as I want to travel it again on 2nd June towing a caravan?

Thanks

I dont know that road condition, But the road from Louis Trichard to Punda is tarred. The normal problems of potholes and cattle and bad drivinng is rampant on that road. The road go through several black settlements.

Enjoy camping.

If this is the same road between Tshipise and the northern KNP area, when I rode it last year in Sept it was in the final stages of major repair and there were a few short detours onto adjacent gravel. There were also a few pot holes west of where they were repairing the road.
Fridge door had fallen off the Gypsey Rapier when we got to Tshipise, but one cannot say the detours were all that bad, just don't ride it with rock-hard tyres!

Probably not so bad as to avoid the route, but travel at 80 or so on the tar and around 40-50 on the detours to be on the safe side.

I suggest you phone the Punda gate personnel and ask them.
gl,
Ian.

The road in question turns of just after Bandolierskop about 5 kms after the Capricorn toll gate and eventually joins up with the road Johan mentions. It then continues to the Punda Maria Gate of the KNP.
The road Ian mentions go past Tshipise and ends at the Pafuri gate of the KNP. You then have to travel quite a distance to reach Punda Maria camp.
The road I enquired about is the shortest route to reach Punda Maria gate and camp travelling from Polokwane etc.

I used the road enquired about some 6 weeks ago. The first section to Elim was potholed but thereafter it was quite good. Take care on the fist section or continue on the N1 until you reach the Giyani/Elim turnoff, turn right at the intersection and turn left at Elim to go to Malumeule.
I have heard that the road past Tshipise to Pafuri gate, KNP is almost impassable somewhere before the gate where a bridge has been washed away and you have to travel on the riverbed to get across.

Pad is heeltemal rybaar sonder slaggate.
