Rear lights on Exclusive
Rear lights are checked before each departure.
The last departure check, right indicator - check, left indicator - check, brakes - check, hazard - ....... nothing. Wiggle 7 pin connection, still no hazard and then also mo right indicator.
I opened light covers. Right indicator bulb looks OK.
BUT there is an extra bulb with no wire. Same on left light set. These bulbs are in a different shiny housing. Probably break lights. Should I split the other 21W line? Should I just swop?
I took a 12v line and tested each bulb, all are working!
On both ends the rubber us not glued down. Should I glue them down?
The caravans 7 pin plug is a bit messy but looks intact, I will clean it up.
The Hilux side I will have tested somewhere (?)
Any suggestions?

Should I spray Q20 on the 7pins in both plugs?
Living the dream
Richard, I spray mine with an Electric Contact Cleaner obtainable from Midas and such shops.
Most times its corroded or dirty contacts were the 2 plug join, have had that before and i replaced both the male and female plugs, both are cheap items.
two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

Yes the electric contact cleaner would work best to clean of residue that prohibit the lights working. Then if you are camp at coastal resort I would advise to use Q20 to remove the moist from the system.

Sonder Jesus is ek niks! ! ! !
I had intermittent working of one of the flicker lights. Spraying Q20/WD40 on the plug is a temporary fix and makes dirt and sand stick to the pins which is worse.
I replaced the plug and later the socket as well.
Never force the plug. If it is stiff then the pins and sockets are not aligned.

Paul
Do yourself a favour and buy one of these - just shop around (online) for good price!!You can test both vehicle and trailer plugs and see result in front of you on tester, no need to ask someone to check at back etc..etc...
Keep it in vehicle and also use to test if you want to tow another trailer - no risk of blowing vehicle fuses if trailer not wired correctly (ISO standard)??
I am struggling to upload image: Google Search: "tow plug tester". Adendorffs seems to have a very good price?
That is a must for caravanners. I built one for myself and later discovered they are available in shops or perhaps they were not available commercially at the time I made mine.

Thanks Egbert, I bought a tester from Adendorffs. When plugged into the tow vehicle, how do you check the brakes? (Maybe the reverse camera?)
All good, so my fiddling may have resolved the problem. However, I bought 2 sets of plugs. One to be used for the camera, ala Lennie, thanks Lennie. I must just find a way to mount the second plug.

Unfortunately you require some assistance with the brakes test.
Ask somebody to step on the brake pedal and the relevant LED on the tester will light up.
Alternatively take a broom stick and use it to depress the brake pedal and then go check on the tester at the back - but be careful not to damage your vehicle's upholstery with the stick??
Those wires in the plug look a bit frot , cut them and solder them for a better connection.
Richard, the unit I built is equipped with a cable to plug into the towing vehicle. I made the cable long enough so that I can rest the part with the indicator lights on the boot or with an SUV, on the back wiper which enables be to see it while sitting in the drivers seat. You might make up a cable with a male and female coupling on the two ends to achieve the same results.

Interesting replies. Considered the stick/brick trick on the brakes.
The young man on You Tube that reviewed the product, had an extention lead that allowed him to sit in the vehicle and do the test.
What this test does is test the socket to the tester. So you do not have a test of socket to socket. Adding the lead adds an extra 2 sockets to the test!
Andrew I did clean up the wires. I don't have soldering equipment to do a 'proper' job. I often consider all the unsoldered (unlugged) wires screwed in to 'connectors', Even by electricians.

The extention cable is much longer than mine. I should have also have made mine longer. I used a standard backlight cluster which still makes easy to view but not as elegant as in the video.

I tested whether I could see the Tester via the reverse camera on the Hilux, and I could just make out the respective lights.
Therefore I can test the Towing Vehicle from within the vehicle.
