Palma to Buy/Rent and Will Nissan 2.4i do?

We are considering buying a Jurgens Palma, 1996 or newer, but I would prefer to rent one for a trip or two before making the investment. My towing vehicle is a 1999 Nissan Hardbody 2.4i, will it do? What is the preferred conversion to be done to the Nissan to improve towing specs.

The 1996 Palma has a GVM of 1200kg legally requiring a towing vehicle with a licence mass in excess of 1200kg.
You do not specify which 2,4i hardbody you want to use, but whether it is the LWB 4x2( tare 1392kg) or the D/C 4x2(tare 1641kg), legally you will be OK.
Powerwise, the latest 2,4i engines develop 110kW and 208Nm which will manage the 1996 Palma.
If you have a early 1999 model, you may have the less powerful engine of 85kW or so which will be a bit underpowered, so just check this first.
If you want to increase the performance without compromising reliability etc, approach a reputable aftermarket specialist. In the Gauteng area I would recommend MAUS Performance near Rosslyn (Pretoria) who are specialists in Nissan vehicles. They have a conversion for the 2,4i boosting power from 110kW to 125kW. Martin or Kobus can be reached at 012-5424990
